i once read some where there were like 1300 astro roofs ill try to dig it up?:confused:

i do have a 87 cool car :biggrin:

They only made 1547 cars and 1300 were astroofs????? They probably only made 150 astroofs is my guess or 10 percent of production hence my 150 car guess.astroof was also like a $1000. Option from what i heard. I have 2 we4 hardtops currently and the 1 in my avatar looks like crap with original paint but i drive it all the time everywhere and i get more positive comments with that 1 car than all my other t's combined. I think it is because of the all black paint and people recognize it as something or diffrent. I am also picking up another we4 this coming week a astroof and all 3 cars are optioned kinda similar .will post some pics soon. I know of about 5 more we4's around here as well.
 
My WE4 is really a Grand National. :p

I guess I need to pop out the astroroof before the boneyard gets it. :eek:

James you got any complete cars without only motors and trannies?

Here are some numbers taken out of my book Guide to 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

For 1987 production on Regals meaning ALL Regals NOT just turbo ones 9,415 T-Tops were produced. Astroroofs for all 1987 Regal models total 2,560 produced. So roughly 3 1/2 times more T-Tops were produced in 1987 over astroroof models.

It is safe to assume most Regals with either of the above mentioned roof options were turbo ones as sales for normal V6 or V8 Regal models buyers were an older crowd. IN other words,
you seldom see a regular V6 or regular V8 with either roof option. Again GM to the best of my knowledge and my info did not seperate the roof option breakdowns.

When I was gathering my info for my book back in 1995-1996 I dealt with an indiivdual at Buick that had access to the files and I would bug him often.

On side note its interesting to note it doesn't appear that Chevy on the Monte Carlo models did not offer a astroroof option only T-tops. Yet Olds did as I have seen them on the 442 models.

I gathered information for well over a year prior to the first printing of my book which covers all the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal models. You c an clearly see how confusing things can be and then you have in addition the Limited Turbo models which were offered in 1987 as well.

The end result is Buick created a multitude of possible combinations many of which are rare today, the only real issue is with no documention available from Buick exact numbers can';t be backed up unless its in print somewhere.

I have a WE4 with ttops, pw, pl, rear defrost, power antenna, and concert sound II and I'm not sure if the power trunk is factory or not somone had some fun with the wires b4 I bought the car. Would this be fully loaded? Also has ac... well it has the compressor but somone took the other parts. No clue why.
 
I still have all the original parts except the front springs, cat back exhaust, and radio delete plate.

My car was pretty stripped as well. Factory radio delete, no floor mats, no tilt, no cruise, no delay wipers, no power seat, no side mouldings, no power locks, but it does have power windows, rear defrost, and front license plate bracket which I think is weird. It only has the key chime, doesn't have the "lights on" chime-which has caused a dead batter a few times.

I'm assuming if you got the radio delete you automatically got a power antenna because my car has that too.

My GN is a radio delete car and it also has a power antenna.Is radio delete a rare option? Does anyone have a picture of the block off plate in their car?

Search MEANSCOTT in the cars for sale forum. His old thread with his 86 stripper gn that he sold was all original and still had the plate in tact with pic. I think TR custom parts has a cheap alternative to buying an actual 87 delete plate and it looks very nice for the money. If I ever get my car finished I'm gonna buy one.

Yes you own my very first Turbo Buick. That car was the reason we invented our stainless steel t-top kit. Although that car never received one. Imagine trying to fab up a front retainer in an auto shop not a fab shop. I searched the net for a solid week trying to find replacement parts for tha main T roof.

That car also had me hooked. With in 3 months I had an 87 GN. Then after buying parts for the car I bought a parts car. Then another, then another, :eek::D

Dennis according to Dixie monte carlo Steve told me there were moon roof Monte carlo's. Not SS's just Moon Roof Monte Carlo's. I have never personally seen a factory moon roof Monte. I have an 87 SS Aero coupe out here but that has an aftermarket roof.


I also agree about common sense wise there should be more Hard tops built then any roof option cars. I still would put moon roof cars at about 10% of any model production wise. Like Stated this is just my experience. I think it's great that we can compare our past experiences with these cars & get a better # of what is out there.

Alan I can't believe you are junking that car as long as you have had it.
 
I've seen an older 78-80 monte with a sunroof in the junkyard. I've also seen that year of cutlass with a factory roof also, that had a floor shift which I almost bought. I can say though I've never seen a GP with a sunroof or a monte ss with one either for that matter

The code for a radio delete feature is UL5 which got you $56 credit if I am reading the price directory correctly for 1987.

The book does not show any indication that you had to purchase a power antenna for a radio delete car. Yoy may have been able to get a fixed antenna.

I can't say for sure though.....however the few radio delete cars I have sold with window stickers had a power antenna option. Years ago we used to sell the radio delete pate it is metal and "popped" into the radio hole spring loaded. Was black and gold trim I believe said Buick on it.

Use to get $50 for them...today would fetch more than that. Years ago our company actually produced the 1984-65 GTO radio delete plate. Also from what I remember it was possible in Hawaii to order a GTO without a heater!

A little off the actual topic....

On the Monte Carlo SS models...I have never seen one with a power antenna option either....nor did those cars get the concert sound option that Regals received...again from what I have seen and I am referring to SS models only.

I may be wrong as I am not an expert on the Monte Carlos. Back in my hey day of selling 1986-1987 Turbo regals...most trades I was offered was Monte Carlo SSs.....I only took 2 in trades!
 
One thing i always thought was funny was that you couldn't get a blue monte ss after 84. Why was that? I had one in that color and it looked great with silver graphics and the black trim.
 
Thanks for the replies.I have the window sticker for the car and it does have the power antena as an option.It was sold new out of Fulerton CA.
 
There is a dark blue '87 Limited in a junkyard near me. It has an Astroroof,V8,Concert Sound (I have the radio),opera lights,Twilight and much more. Column shift car.

It must be one of the few non-turbo Astroroof cars. Maybe I should grab the roof glass. ...unless it's crushed by now.

I do have a pic of the rpo tag.
