We had this same thread going in the So Western sec. Had some great stories. Here's my first one.
A mismatch at Carlsbad Raceway.
This was about twelve years ago. I had just got done running a few thirteen second, base line runs with my newly acquired GN. Figured that I'd head up to the old wooden bleachers and watch some runs. Soon after I planted my but on the splinters, I noticed a stock looking and sounding, little, yellow Toyota mini truck. Honestly, I couldn't even hear it running over the big block Chevy powered slingshot dragster in the other lane. I remember laughing, while pondering the thought of the fastest "looking" car at the track, lined up against the stockest "looking" vehicle there. I can't remember who cut the better light, but it was close. To my (and everyone elses) suprise, that little pick up walked that rail all the way down the 1320'.
Back in the pits, I had to know what kind of hideous, nitrous fed monster lived under the stock hood of that yellow truck. After meeting the owner named Scott, I was allowed to see the beast that had been unleashed on that poor, unsuspecting dragster. To my total surprise, it was the same thing that I had under my hood. A 109 blocked, Turbo buick engine.
Happy spooling...
