I have been down here for 5 months, working for a few of the guys who posted above. You just hit the un populated area. Im a stones throw from Raleigh. Its busy here. Colleges everywhere.

Have always wanted to relocate to NC but just never got around to it. Running out of time to do it too, not getting any younger. Have been all around the state and liked some of the towns surrounding Charlotte. Mooresville seemed OK too.

Asheville was nice too and there was a little place we visited there that was pretty nice, Biltmore Estate. Funny how people ooh and aww the mansions out in Newport RI, all of them together would probably fit in that place!

Talk to me when you can make it 470 miles in 6 hrs 45mins :D.

And Bethel is a one of a kind town , Its like time itself has stopped down there.

It is 474 miles from my Florida door to my NC door. I do it in exactly 7 hrs. Even with all the I-95 construction and the long gas stops for my pooches pee pee breaks. ;)

$495 a month for Rent? You must have been in the upper side of town. Nothing down here to do but watch the grass grow. I'm sorry Tobacco & cotton grow.

Glad to see you here again Brian. Hope everything is good for you.

As far as towns that time forgot you need to go to Appalacia and take a look around. The tri state area there will raise the hackles on the back of the neck.

Well, I like it where I am. Close enough to Charlotte to get anything I need pretty quick. Far enough away that I can leave my door unlocked while I run to the store and not worry about it. There is a lot of culture and history here. Just because it doesn't have a 100,000 plus people a square mile population doesn't mean that it is back water or hicksville. Most of the people are here because they like the slower pace of life.

My wife came from a big city. At first she had a little trouble adjusting to the area but now, I don't think I could force her to live in a big city at gun point. Not many people who move here ever leave. The problem is that you have to slow down enough to really appreciate it and it takes most folks a couple of years to do that. There are 15 traffic lights total in my county. I can be snow skiing or swimming in the ocean in about the same amount of drive time. Our food is just as good as anything in a fancy dining establishment, different maybe, but just as good. It's hard to beat a traditional pulled pork bar-b-que or real southern fried chicken.

NC has the most miles of paved roads of any state. We have the Biltmore House, the largest house in the country. We have Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. The Wright Brothers first flight was here. We have some of the best universities, the research triangle, little Hollywood (Wilmington) and the Venus Fly Trap. The state is beautiful, charming, and a good place to live and raise a family.

Visitors are welcome and if you choose to become a resident we'll welcome you too but on the same token, we feel about our state just like we feel about our country. If you don't like it, nobody said you have to stay, leave. Unless you have a purdy mouth, then we may insist that you stay a spell (as the music from Deliverance plays in the back ground).

Check out the coast...like Duck, Nagshead, Outer Banks and that area. Beautiful if you ask me. Greenville and Thomasville are nice, I have a cousin there. A lot of people from the D/C area are moving there to get away from the chaos. Virginia (not Northern VA and Richmond) is like NC. Any time I travel I tell people I am from "the Washington DC area" because if I say Virginia, they think I live in the sticks.

Gvegas is where it is at:biggrin:

Naybe in March I can find out for myself:biggrin:

Yes you will buddy, yes you will!

They'd probably get lynched.

If they cross the right county line you are correct:wink:

NJ = High Insurance Premiums > NC = Low Insurance Premiums

NJ = High Property Taxes > NC = Low Property Taxes

NJ = Highway Tolls w/$hitty roads < NC = No Tollway roads that are maintained

NJ = Stolen Turbo Regals < NC = Less Crime worries

An opinion from a NJ transplant, moved away 18 years ago and will never move back.... :D

lol its funny how the first flying machine was invented in nc, i guess they were really desperate to find a way out of there

the wright brothers did the inventing and fabrication in dayton ohio.

however, leo da vinci was probably the first to put it to paper.

I assume they picked the TALL sand dunes, part of what was missed, for the height and the beautiful sand as cushion as opposed to rocks around other hilly terrain...

The Wright brothers picked NC for the dunes as well as the the winds that blow off the ocean. Much better conditions to get the plane air born. They tested gliders for several years before putting power to it. They even had to design the engine to get the power to make it work. A little research goes a long way.

small towns and country girls

nothing to do but keep their men warm, gotta love cornfeed bred country girls. those girls do know how to make a guy wanna travel to the country. it's the guys who play dueling banjo's song and say you sure do have a pretty mouth that scare the hell out of me.

No dueling banjo's east of 85 in NC:wink: West will carry you towards the mountains, that may be a different story up there:wink:

Isn't that in any Appalacian Town? Wether it is PA., MD., WVA., VA., NC.?

Shane as far as crossing over that bridge I just wouldn't know exactly where to say it changes back. ;)

Right now I'm sure Dave is in back seeing how much crack he can get for a TSO car.

I have Eric dealing with the local pimps to see how much ho's & drugs are going for now.

The beauty of a small town in NC. LOL All modern convenience with out having to drive to Gvegas.

In all reality NC small towns are great to bring your family up in. You can drive to Greenville for anything you need in 15 minutes but be out of the congestion & back in 15 minutes.

Wow this pitch almost wants to make me take up roots & move there. NOT!
I thought Hush Puppies were shoes??
Yah just cant get a good HOGGIE or GRINDER or NY PIZZA down there. :(

I would consider NC or SC but after the kids are gone and it would have to be close to the coast.
