Got there early for a change, and saw about 10 cars in the pits! Thinking I would get as many runs as I can I made my first pass on drag radials with 17 lbs of air. The car would only 60ft 1.8 and the stock shifter was sliding up and down thru the gears like crazy. The car went a hair faster than 11.49 and the time slip teenage girl blew a gasket and started reciting the NHRA rule book to me! "Your car is not equipped to run faster than 11.49, U need to have a roll cage installed". "If U do it again ur outta here". So that kind of ruined the nite for me but I thought I would try to dial in the launches on slicks and full kill the car to the 1/8th mile and just coast the rest. So I did that like 6 times until it got late then the I tried to run a sub 11 second pass but it wasnt meant to be as I can't figure out how to shift the car, so Im on the hunt for a Quicksilver as soon as I get some cash. After that last pass the time slip girl had steam coming out of her ears and actually lectured my buddy who ran next to me, but only told me "The next time U do that ur both done". We were leaving anyway, but its crazy to think that they are more worried about E.T. than actual MPH. Im sure theres guys that have gone 11.40s at 120mph and theres also guys that have gone 11.90s at 120mph. Whats the difference? I dont get it... but what Im gonna have to get is a cage because I just cant stand the track in Indiana.

Just out of curiousity why are you manually shifting the car??

Why so concerned about shifting? I've always (no matter how much experimenting I do) run quicker and faster leaving it in D than trying to find a good shift point.
Mine shifts automatically right at about 5,050rpm which seems to be optimum for this setup.

Go nail your ex-girlfriend or something....  I heard its so slow that a floor jack and photo shop are your cup of tea..:wink:this post is not intended for Brer, more for the Dr.

go to Byron. I ran 11.42@120 and the kid giving me the slip said "nice run"

Rabbit Hunter!!!

You should buy better tires. That may get your 60ft down, or at least keep me from repeatedly spanking you down North Ave. while leaving Strats. Maybe the added weight of the cage will give you better traction, if not Dr. Boost can watch me and my little wimpy stocker beat up on a "Caged Up Race Car" again. Just poking fun at cha'. Great running car. And yes I am aware that Im getting something started.;)

good question...

The answer is that when I leave the car in drive it shifts at 4,800, both times and I know the car pulls hard up to at least 6,000, so it will clearely run quicker if I shift later.

Gotcha...I think I'd be working on the governor then.

My trans is the same way, shifts to early on its own. I think I wacked 3rd gear because of it and I have the dual feed.

If only we could get it to shift rock solid on its own at 5800-5900
Is your 2-3 shift getting soft or flairing?

if you play with governer, you can raise shift points . the downside is that your overdrive will kick in later .

I'm only guessing based on your stated times/mph, but at your level of present performance, I'd bet if you actually dyno'd the car, you'd find out that you're leaving a lot on the table waiting to shift up at 6,000. It may "feel" like it's still pulling hard, and probably is still pullilng, but it has to be way beyond both the HP and torque peak by 6,000.
Or did I miss something?

Jimmy had it down on my original trans but three times bringing it back for other reasons and I ended up with a different one
If I remember right he said he replaced the govener with with a brand new one. That did the trick but like I said, thats not the one I have now.

With roller cams these things want to keep going. 6000 may be pushing it a little but 5000 seems too soon.

For the record, when I had my stock short block in the car with ported stock heads, billet hydraulic roller 214/210, TD Roller Rockers (mainly for adjustability), 66 P-trim ball bearing turbo, 3500 stall 9" converter in a full race built transmission.....I was manually shifting at 5,800 rpms. If I let the trans shift on its own, it would shift at around 4,900-5,000 and slow the car down by a FULL second. That means it would run 11.5 instead of 10.5. My experience is that once the cam is changed, especially to a billet roller, you really need to atleast look at the shift points on a FAST or other stand alone computer or a dyno to know what is right.
