I have an older Jay Carter chip which always causes part throttle knock. I can tune my boost for when I mash it and everything is fine. Then as boost rises above 10 or so I will get knock unless I floor it. Otherwise I have to stay below 50% throttle. Its hard to let the wife drive because I have to tell her to go easy or squash it.

Does anybody use the Ramchargers non-translator chips? What are they like?

Having the same problem with part throttle knock. I am using a Translator Plus with the extender chip that is setup for 98 Octane/Alcohol. Which way should I go with this setup to tame it a bit for part throttle no knock? Should I take timing out for below 3500rpm. My alky system comes on at 12 lbs.

Sorry....I don't have any solutions....mine does the same thing.

TA49 / ported elbow w/ 2.75" downpipe / PowerPlate / SMC Alcy kit / etc. / etc.

With the Testa chip and a BstC spool up is unreal. Almost too much when you are just cruising around. Sometimes any throttle input will spool it up to 10-12 lbs of boost and I get some knock since the TPS is barely above idle. If I hammer it....no knock...

For instance....coming home from work today, cruise set on 60mph...start to climb a small hill and the cruise control gives it a little throttle to get up the hill....turbo spools up to 7-8 psi and I get 0.5 deg of KR. Not a lot, but annoying.

At least with the BstC I can turn it down easily.

Sometimes it's hard to have the best of both worlds.

I've got a Reds chip in the GN which has plenty of fuel and no KR in that car. A Ramchargers 93 chip should also work well.

I think the lean running quick spool code is what gives me part throttle KR when not in PE.

Have to add some fuel someday with my maxeffort chip.

Mark that timing change may do it for you under 3.5K rpm. 2-4* reduction for a test.

This may help, not sure, but it is some tuning results with a Xylene mix. I have the Trans +, BstC, and the extender chip for Redstripes. Taking timing out at WOT helped me eliminate knock. Also, the Extender chip is the best chip I have used. Gotta try that ME sometime on the other car :) . Mark, there is usually some info in the alky section on timing, and I think 23* is about what is run with that (you probably already know this). Here is my tuning info, hope it helps:
Tuning info with Trans +
And some Trans + good tuning info from some TB gurus.
Trans + higher octane tuning info
Dave H. runs the alky and Trans + and has good info on both these threads

Any chance the part throttle knock you are seeing is EGR advance? Is the EGR working? If it's disabled, is it disabled so the code doesn't add in the advance?

I know that pluging the EGR usually results in a rattle machine at part throttle.

I'm not saying this is your problem, I'm asking if it is possibe.

Terry

I have found a few things to combat partial throttle knock, espically with alky and race chips:

-Reduce timing in lower RPM's (less than 3000 RPM) and mid Load blocks
-In the TPS for PE Table, Lower the required TPS input % before it enters PE Fuel mode at lower RPMs, 3000 and below. This way, it will enter PE when the throttle is tipped in a lot earlier, and goto PE much sooner. However, Dont put it down so low that it's always in PE with light throttle!

Hope this helps,
Bob

I agree with ya Bob. Not sure Steve Y. will, it might upset the 0-4K spoolup fueling.

Luckily I can add some fuel there.

Gotta work on that and my alky. 2nd stage. Put a smaller jet in the first stage and trigger it earlier. 2nd stage gets the big jet via a solenoid. Might help even part throttle. :)

I have been running my Thrasher 100 for several months in the heat of the summer and get ZERO part throttle/transitional knock

I also have a Thrasher which really rarely shows part throttle KR since the timing is so low. My problem is the Thrasher idles poorly and has a stumble off idle. I figure once I change injectors from the stock ones the Thrasher will work better.

The T-100 has much more timing then a typical street chip

I have no stumble with my stockers. That is where the Thrasher usually excels is with stockers and blue tops. My guess is your injectors are wore out and leaking causing a difficult to tune idle and your stumble
