Just curious what a stock GN runs in the 1/8th mile, so I can have a reference to judge my car by if I go run it. Thanks guys.

Dunno exactly, but I ran 9.2 and 9.3 or so at ~74, 75 first time out. I "think" my only mods were simple: Cold air kit, breather removed from inlet bell, TB bypass, and maybe the fuel pump. Those numbers seem to correspond to low 14 times in the 1/4.

Next I removed the cat, put on a power plate and ran 8.74@79.

Thise were both with a RA93 chip, stock boost actuator (RA boost is ~16-17). 60' times have been 2.0 consistant. Car had 155,000 miles then and unknown history. :D

With just exhaust and a chip my car managed 9.1 w/2.1 60s the first time out. The 2nd time I was more experienced w/ the same mods and it was cooler. I ran a best of 8.69 w/same 60s. I did however use an Xylene mix on that last run.

Use 1.58 as a multiplier for the quarter mile on a stock type set-up. A 14.1 ET quarter would be an 8.9 in the eighth then. As for stock times, depends on what your defintion of stock is.....boost, tires, and launch can make a huge difference. I consider mine stock :D . I think 12.0 (7.6) eighth is the ultimate goal to shoot for on stock turbo. Tim

back in 1991 when I had my first GN I ran a best of 9.16 in the 1/8th. Thats was completly stock, right down to the 215/65/15's.

When I raced a stock one back in 1990 in my mustang, he ran 9.20's@75 then popped in a chip and ran 8.9's@78 after that. Kicked my but either way.

The practical limit for stock turbo, intercooler, injector, trans, etc. TR is in the 7.70 - high 7.60 range at about 90 mph so there is lots of room for improvement.

cool

Good feedback guys. Hopefully this thing will pull a 9 something then.....maybe better. I'll keep ya informed.

I don't have my time slips from this years nats but last

I think BigTurbo6 was asking about a car that just rolled off the showroom floor, ie: stock chip and boost.

A stock GN off the showroom floor will not run 85 in the 1/8th. Add boost and the right chip and 85 is not out of the question. ERIC.

Don't want to be a wise guy..

I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but I had a slightly different number for figuring between 1/8th to 1/4. I can't remember where I found this, but I think it's the NHRA suggested number.

1.555 X 1/8 mile ET = 1/4 mile ET

1/4 mile ET / 1.555 = 1/8 mile ET

Like I said, I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but I just ran the numbers on Ed's 1/8th and 1/4 and they pretty much check out to that. Hope that helps.

Completely stock with 10,000 miles on the original tires and through the stock cat mine went 9.00. The 60 foot stunk and it would spin pretty bad shifting into 2nd. No doubt they could run 8's on a better tire than those 215/60 gatorbacks.

nope the G/N was bone stock no chip no air filter no test pipe no nothing just drag ta,s it went 8.78 with the original eagles and 8.53 on the ta,s and it did run 85mph al cars are not created equal also i had a 150k mile turbo t that run a 8.03 with tires filter and adjustable regulator thats was the only mods hell guys if your just in the nines try boosting it up off the line with tires u cant leave off of idle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good chart..

I did the math a few times with those figures and they came up pretty close. Good looking chart/ comparison.

Weather

Remember then atmospheric conditions make a big difference in how well a car runs. When my car was new (under 20K) on a nice crisp evening, with good air it went 8.8s at around 81-2 mph. I will admit to some 8mm plug wires but it still had the GY eagles(Where did the gatorbacks on your car come from Mr. Bradford? 'No doubt they could run 8's on a better tire than those 215/60 gatorbacks') With a chip, some 265/50 bfgs, tuning the thing would go 8.5-6 range like I drove it on the street back then(Late eighties). I used to give the mustang guys fits. They'd be on stickies, rowin' the 5 spd, w/o powersteering(remember when they'd remove the belt for that last .1) running 8.40s.

Good Luck with yours

Rich

With a K&N, Red 93 chip, a little 100 oct. added, 18#boost, Stock turbo stock inj street tires went 8.59 at 84.

Texas T

I thought the original tires were GB's. I've got them put up and haven't seen them in about 5 years so I may be wrong. High eights would be right with some practice leaving on the little tires.

The original Tires were just Eagle GT's which aren't VR rated (why TR's had a 124 mph limiter)

Similar year 5.0 Mustangs and IROC's had VR tires (Gatorbacks) and no speed limitations.
