What does your AC compressor sound like when you spin the pully by hand with the belt off of course?

I am chasing a bearing like noise in the front of the engine, I already replaced the tensioner assembly. Anyway, my ac compressor sounds like metal on metal and it doesn't sound anything close to something like an alternator sounds when i spin that...

Thanks,
Nate

When the clutch isn't engaged it should spin free.
However you may have some rust/corrosion between the clutch and the pump since there's only a small clearance area there.

Try some sandpaper on the edge of the clutch pulley if it's rubbing.

If it's the bearing that's another story.

Thanks for the replies...the pulley appears to be rubbing on the outermost assembly, that part that stays stationary when not engaged. I wouldn't even be able to get a piece of sandpaper between the two. I wedged a screwdriver between the two, and you can feel some sort of spring tension that would allow it to move in and out. It's almost as if it has half engaged... How easy is it to pull the clutch/pulley off? or should i just assume i should get a new one or an AC delete pully?

Thanks,
Nate
