hi is it possible to get rid of my hard lines that run from the side of my 200r transmission and make them braided and then run them directly into a b and m trans cooler (has its own fan) and then back again....\

right now i have the b and m trans cooler and i have the braided line...i have the two fitting that i fit into the trans cooler that turn into -6 fitting so i connect hose there ...now what is the size of fitting on the other end?

anyone know what size fitting i need that just screws into the transmission side eliminating the hard line and then that just connects into the new braided line?

also if i have a champion fuel rail what fittings do i need to run braied fuel lines as well? what size out of the fuel rail if i want -8 for feed and -6 for return?...so do i put a -6 fitting with a -6 hose and then i need an adapter fitting for both the fuel rail side and from the hard fuel line from the tank?

what size fittings adapters are those or what do i ask for?

for the -8 feed line i need -8 hose a -8 fitting with an adapter to fit on the fuel rail and another one to fit on the hard one from the tank?

getting lost here hehe...how many fittings do i need ? and what sizes?
please help...thanks i need it...

one more thing...i have an f body rad should i run the stock hard lines into the trans cooler in the rad and then from the rad run my external cooler with braided lines or should i just bypass the rad altogether since my trans coooler has its own fan etc...thanks again ...noah.

Not NPT

If you screw the NPT (nation pipe tap) into your transmission it WILL crack the transmission case at the port! This is a straight tread with a sealing washer NOT tapered NPT!

That is correct. You need a 1/2-20 to -6 AN adapter fitting, Earls part no. EAR-991946ERL (Summit, $5.95). This is an inverted flare fitting. These fittings thread into the existing brass case fittings on the side of the transmssioon. This is what I used on mine and works perfectly.

While lots of people use NPT fittings with no problems you still risk cracking the case (it does happen) or getting thread sealer in the transmission.
 
The trans case uses 1/4" NPSM (Straight Mechanical) witch is strange because it sounds like that fitting is not designed for sealing pressure lines but that is what it is...

1/4" NPT (the T is for Taper) does work in the NPSM threads in the case, but as mentioned it can crack the case - this is true of any tapered thread in an aluminum casting.

I went right in to the case on my trans. Used a teflon sealer that at least one member on the board has a fit about but it has ALWAYS worked for me. I just made sure everything was clean and dry, used the tube to work the sealer in the threads leaving the first thread dry as to help not get sealer in the lines and cranked it down knowing that when I crank down the hose end fitting to the adapter fitting it will move again.

I believe letting it sit a day+ permits the teflon sealers time to cure before getting hit with the oil that definitely does a number on teflon tape - maybe when cured the sealer is resistant enough - but as usual, no leaks from my plumbing and maybe a 1000 miles on the trans cooler system
 
Ok, what timing, I just ordered all my parts yesterday. Here is what you will need to run new transmission lines and the adapters for your F body radiator and the external trans cooler, use both the tranny cooler and the external cooler. This order is from Jeg's, 1st item is for the radiator, 3rd items are for the tranny.

I hope that this helps, I replaced my converter at Bowling Green this year and ended up smashing a tranny line, did a patch job in the pits and this is my fix.

Not if you're careful. I've used and 1/4NPT- -6AN adapters will no ill effects.

Why risk using the wrong fitting? If you know what the fitting is supposed to be I would use it. FWIW if you have a trans cooler with a fan that is capable of maintaining fluid temps then you should NOT use the radiator as well. This just decreases flow and increased line pressure.

Hi James,

I was not aware of this, I thought that two coolers are better then one :confused: . When I bought the B & M cooler the instructions I thought said to use both... the radiator then the aftermarket and back to the tranny.
This model went in front of the radiator, which is now behind the mega cooler fmic.

Are the fitting sizes included in this thread for an external transmission cooler? Has anyone kept the factory hard lines and run off of them to an external tranny cooler, if so how?

How did this set up work for you. My line got a crack in it and I need to do something. Sounds hard to get a new set installed without lifting motor or working it real hard. What kind of hose did you use. I guess this is not braided. I need to do something this week to get back on the road.
 
Well the tranny cooler lines are so close to the cross over pipe that I kept the factory steel lines in place, even with a extra connection where the original line got smashed in BG KY. I club member told me that he ran his rubber lines through the frame to avoid the hot crossover pipe.
If you get a tube bender at harbor frieght, about a 6 foot section of brake line and a flaring tool, you could bend up a new one or let your favorite mechanic do it for you.

I have a crack where it goes over the crossmember. I cut it and tried to put a long piece of hose over it with two clamps on each side. But it leaks worse now. I guess they need to be flared to seal. So brake line is the right size? Sounds like that could be an answer so I don't have to wait for some lines to get shipped here and then fight to get them in.
I have used the brake line that is bendable. Would that work on the tranny lines?
