I want to order a new turbo and take advantage of the savings I can get through one of the vendors that is doing a Christmas special, but which one. I have a stock block, 60lbers., going with a 2800 or 3000 l/u? What would be the best 6776? or 6176?

I need to know what turbo would work best because I do not want to have to buy a new turbo after this one. I have stock block and tranny, 60lber's. Walbro340/hotwire kit, headers, adj. fuel reg., cold air kit, stock ic, scanmaster and 3.5 LS1 maf/maf translator, will have a 3000 stall. What BB turbo would be the best or most sensible if I am not looking to go crazy 6131/6157, 6152/6162, 6776/6765?

certainly no expert here but the 6776 requires a 3200 or higher convector to be used efficiently.

evaddave has one and his is all all money with spool up

very similar to my new setup...
I'd go 6776BB with 3200 stall...will be awesome and even better if you decide to upgrade your cam and do some head work down the road. That is the path I am going with my setup. If I didn't already have the 9/11 3500 stall I would have been all over the 6776bb...instead I went with the GT6776e standard journal since I had the stall to spool it. If you want to stay with the 3000 stall then maybe the 6765 ?

IMO. Go with the 6152. You have plenty of stall so it should spool like crazy  6776 sounds a liitle big. 6152 will produce more than enough power without going too big.

I would consider a bigger IC also. Even a Dutt neck IC is better than stock. You do not want a bottleneck/weak link in the chain if you have all those other goodies. Check out the PTE stock location IC. Its a little pricey but what isnt on these cars....

Your combo doesn't sound too far off what I have going. I have been debating the same thing. Until recently my brother was working in sales at Precision. He has been trying to aim me twards the new boosted 6162. I really questioned his reason for not bumping me up to the new boosted version of what used to be 6776 (I think it is 6765 now>). He said the bigger turbo is too much for the stock shortblock. He has a former co-worker that was running a 6776 and cracked his stock block (HI Patrick) and figured I would be on the same path with the bigger turbo. The 6162 will support 640HP and he didn't think I should be trying to push the stock drivetrain the extro 100 or so horses the bigger turbo would support.

I still haven't totally ruled out the big one but I think the 6162 will be the one going on my car this spring. My $.02
