So I just got all my parts!!!
1. Ramchargers Dual Fans
2. Some Redline Water Wetter
3. Tranny Cooler
4. Hold downs made by my buddy for the radaitor
5. Ties to hold the fans in place
6. Carb Cleaner for the intercooler clean the dirty b1!(h out!!

So I am ripping the stuff off the car I dont need and I get to the belt driven fan take it off and then I notice the water pump is starting to leak coolant:mad:    What the hell happen now:mad: So I climbed under the car and there she is leaking coolant out the little hole in the water pump. It wasnt leaking coolant when I started?

So my water pump is shot now?????

What did I do???? Cause whatever I did I dont want to do it agian!!!:D

I have pulled fans off cars before and never had this problem. Do you think the water pump was on its way out the door or did I do something to it???

Best place to get a water pump local parts store or is there a step up in water pumps I should look at?? As always asking the experts who make owning a turbo regal so much cooler!!

TIA Nick

If its leaking from the hole its shot..........doubtful it was anything you could have done.......just time to go. I have no knowledge of an upgrade but just don't slap a autozone cheapo on it.......ya git what ya pay for there :p Coulda been worse.......could have happened in the middle of nowhere

Thank for the reply...........must have just been the tension coming off of the pump when the belt was taken off. That is alright I will change her now better then on the side of road.....like ya said.....thank agian guys.....I am looking into some better pumps.....having troble!!

Nick

When it leaks from the whep hole that means it has gone bad. It has nothing to do with what you did to it. It was just its time. Get a good aftermarket waterpump. Don't get a cheapo cause you get what you pay for.

fwiw,i'm using a flowkooler waterpump(one of those with an anti-cavitation plate)and it seems to work pretty well.got it from summit,i think it was about $50.

later,sean

thank Sean!!! I just got back from a performance guy in town and he called around for me and couldnt find nothing.........I will call up Summit and check it out......I might as well go high performance if I got to replace it...;) Thanks agian......Nick.

:o

Summit should have them in stock, this the only high performance water pump available for the buick V6
IT is really just a standard GMB off the shelf 20 dollar water pump , BUT with that stainless steel back plate riveted to the back of the impeller, IT IS WHAT I use on both of my cars

WHEN you get to the summit site, type in BRA-1621 , and it should come up in their inventory
THE BRA is short for BRASSWORKS , the company in California that markets the flow-kooler brand.
THEy also sell them online, but summit is cheaper than the factory, GO figure?

Regards

Thanks guys!!! I order the water pump from Summit last night......my tranny cooler in on back order with ATR....so i checked with Summit and they got a deal going now for B&M Tranny Cooler.......you order one and get 4 quarts of Trick Shift fluid free:cool: So I order one of those too.........by the time I get done putting all this stuff in the car.....she should be running very...... .......thank again.........

nick

oh one more question does the B&M tranny cooler have to hook up to the radiator at all or do I just run the hoses right off the tranny lines around to the front were the cooler will be mounted......I just wanted to know so I could go ahead and fabricate my Ramcharger fan to fit.......but if i have to use the radiator in conjuction with the cooler then I need to cut more off the dual fan setup to mount it to the radiator???????? TIA

Hate to suggest that you spend a little more money, but I'm going to...The radiators on the 84/5's aren't as wide as the later model radiators...My suggestion to you to help cooling, especially with the FMIC, is to buy a G-body V8 radiator...It is wider than the 84/5 V6 radiator...Basically the same as the 86/7 GN/TR radiator without the the engine oil cooler...They aren't that expensive and the only thing you will need to mount it is the top radiator core support, which you can get at a local salvage yard...They may also still be available from GM, too...By going to the larger radiator, you won't need to make any mods to the fans to fit(???)...

i'll second that.the v8 radiator is significantly bigger than the v6 radiator.

as far as the tranny lines go,you will want to run the radiator cooler first, then the external cooler.

     Well I hate to even admit it but I already went through the trouble of changing radiators........I called Holm's Radiator in Des Monies IA.....He told me that the V6 replacement radiator he had for my car would out flow the stock one. Which it did by 20 degrees on the highway....i would run at 180 to 183 or so. With the air on. My problem in town didnt change though it would get up to around 200 degrees in town and eventually want to climb higher. So I am happy with that , but I am unhappy with the fit of the ramchargers unit on the V6 radiator. I should have gotten a V8 and it would fit just fine. OH well I will make her look as good as possible. I will have to have the fans hang more on one side then the other. To use the radiator tranny cooler too. That will be fine it might look a little weird but oh well it will serve the purpose and my cooling system will be all brandy new.

I got holders to hold the fan on the radiator.
They are zip tie like things that summit sells are these good enough to hold the fans on the radiator??? Seems like they will work??

Can the electric fans be turned on at highway speeds.......say 70mph????????? really sorry for the long post!! TIA

Nick

I have got Kenny Holmes BIG tube GN radiator with both cooler tanks on my TURBO RIVIERA, works great , and was about an inch less wide that the riviera unit, THEY make a diesel Heavy duty Radiator for the Riviera, it has both cooler tanks and wider than the gn, it may fit he gn, The cooler tanks on the diesel are one on each side, transmission on one side (passenger) but the oil cooler tank is on the drivers side, something to think about, your fan may fit better,

anyway, I can say that Kenny's Radiator KICKS BUTT , really does a good job

Regards

Generally, the fans should be off when at highway speeds...The reason being is that the rotating fans will create a barrier behind the radiator and will keep air from flowing THROUGH the radiator and will cause your car to actually run hotter...
