So i had a nightmare last night that during my engine swap project for my 84 gn that we discovered that it wasnt the original 200r4 behind the 4.3 crate motor that the previous owner installed. anyways it woke me up and i was pretty pissed.

How can i identify if my automagic is a 200r4? will it say "200r4" somewhere on it? is the pan unique to 200r4's?

The most sought after is the "BR" version that came out of the 86/87 cars. It has a metal tag on the tail end of the trans identifying it as such.

According to the pan diagrams i have confirmed that i have the 200 -4R. but i am missing the shield that protects the flexplate and torque converter

I haven't run with a converter cover in over two decades.

it actually protects squirrels and cute critters from the choppy smashy gear teeth! (if the tires don't get them)
