You are correct, my car was breaking up on the top end and I could'nt figure out why. Got slower and slower as the day progressed and on my final pass I blew a head gasket. The next day I popped the hood to find out which side the gasket was blown on I saw that the alternator nut for the power wire was holding on by a thread. Needless to say I found my problem, as the nut got looser there just wasn't enough power to feed all the electronics on the car. No matter what I did I couldn't get any faster than 110mph. Oh yeah ac blows ice could too.
