I am curious but is there something that is better to use than alcohol? I keep seeing people using methanol or various other substances instead of alky. Is there something that cools better than alky? Or should I just stick with 91% alcohol or whatever it is. Thanks!
What is with these "other" substances being used besides alky?

methanol and ethanol are just other forms of alcohol....rubbing alcohol is Isopropyl.
Most of us are using denatured alcohol which is ethanol with a little methanol added to make it extremely poisonous so it can not be sold for consumption.
Some believe that methanol makes more power but it is extremely corrosive and eats up pumps unless they are made for it. Experience has shown that a mixture around 60-40 or 50-50 methanol water works very well.
I have been watering my denatured down to 60-40 and find that it works at my current boost levels just as well as straight. I am not sure what affect it will have on the pumps long term.

Actually...
I have seen the best results with no more than 60% denatured and 40% water (I usually run a 40/60 mix in the summer and a 30/70 mix in the winter). Denatured alcohol's specific heat capacity is around .5 and water's is 1. Meaning that it takes 2x as much heat to raise the temperature of water than that of denatured making water more efficient. Running the two mixed together offers a cold charge and absorbs more heat than just running straight alcohol. Another thing to consider is that ice cold water has a specific heat of .58 which is close to alcohol. Something to think about if you do run out of alcohol and all the stores are closed at midnight and someone thinks they're car is the s***.

I probabbly shouldn't post this, but what the heck...
I was running 25 psi, no knock using a 50-50 mix of toulene, and de-natured. I havn't gotten back to experimenting since I added the alum heads, but I'm considering it.
I was using a SMC kit. (still am)
And carrying a fire extinguisher...

were you running a race chip too??
cause i have a 87 limited 50's te44 thdp smc hemco ect
and all i could run was 24 psi and a street chip with 92 octane and pure denatured

Ran (sttill running) the Extender chip. 'Zeroed out' Meaning I didn't change any of the settings.
Notice that I'm running a PTE-51 and a front mount. That is probabbly why I could rum more. Also running 20* timing.
Actually I put some toulene in the tank (30%), and hit 27-28 psi. I had no knock, but never took a full quarter run, as the o-2's were dropping too fast.
I'll go for it again, but first I'm going to get the chip fixed so it drops some timing out in 3rd...
I never did try the combination out with just denatured. I have a feeling that the results would have been the same though...
Since I have the Trans+, I would like to run methanol injection. (have the option of dropping out fuel at WOT)I probabbly will do this when I find a pump to do it with. Hopefully the pump will fit in the SMC bottle...
