I just wanna know what the real street TR's are using. The cars that put more miles on them on the street than at the track. No matter how fast or slow, if you drive it on the street on a regular basis, let us know.

TIA,

K.

IMO..a street car can be driven across the country..and back..change the oil and run low 11's at the track..mine will stockecm/ maf...altho here in town we have some stangs that run 5.60's in the 1/8 and they call them "street cars"

Shoulda said daily driver and eliminate anyone without a TR daily beater. ;)

Two cars, one Translator+ with LS1 MAF and modified ECM for 55's, other one with stock MAF and Stock ECM Bosch 42's.

Both run 11's on pump gas and alky. stock heads and cams.

Well bought one used but it seems to have stock heads and cam. :D

Daily driven.

Got a couple NOS MAF's so I'm in no hurry to get another translator system, both TurboBob and Eric Marshall make great daily driver/Alky. chips in MHO. :)

Stock ECM, stock MAF.

High 10's.

No cage. Everything is there and works.

street car = can sit and idle in traffic for an hour with the a/c on with out over heating.

Mine uses a stock ecm, with a new A/D channel in use so that I can run a MAP system. Then the code has been rewritten to be a true 3 Bar high resolution application. Plus I have a few new items in the calibration to make it the best there is. ie I have a fuel and timing correction based on VSS. A full 3D table for MAT vs Boost fuel corrections. And a few other items.

When I'm not running that custom set-up I then run a GM Syclone ecm.
http://home.woh.rr.com/brucesgn/749togn/
I've also public domained the source code for the Syclone code, so those that want to, can modify that code to have it do as they please.

While the first ecm takes some internal rewiring, they both are $50 junkyard items. So I can afford to carry spares.

And a 500 mile road trip is a no big deal.

Joe,

I agree with you. My idea of a "street car" is being able to pack it up and head 3 hours to Myrtle Beach, cruise for the weekend, and drive it back home. Something my car is quite capable of, and then click off 11.0's on 93-octane!!:D

I'm just interested in how other fellow TR owners are running their cars.

I'll have to ask him about it at Reynolds. I know he drives it on the street some, but is it able to go on multiple hour trips? With that much $$$ in the car I doubt he cares to make vacations with it, that's what the family car is for.:)

as for when I get my car street equiped...

Ohhh, so you're getting the low mile car back on the road!?

I run an ecm modified for 72#ers and a stock MAF with max effort.

Only complaint is the reliability of the factory MAF-- I've been through 3 (1 original, 2 used) in the last six months. Am now exploring the other options.

A question for those of you voting in the F.A.S.T., Big Stuff-3, DFI column:

How much street driving are you doing? I know that these systems are the best available for tuning at the track. But what about drivability on the street, highway, cruising, etc.??

Thanks,

K.

if you need "drivability", you don't need FAST

BTW, mine drives just fine on the street and if optimized for street driving, would drive better than the stock ecm, I suspect

I don't use it as a daily driver, but it goes roundtrip over 100 miles to the track quite often

Can I call mine street if a week after putting a new motor and trans in it We drove from NC to Maine,3200mi in two weeks of driving??? Stock MAF, ported stock heads, 009's/Ultimate 8 posistion chip for injectors, hot wire 304, KB 1TXB cam and valve spring kit, race plate, stock TB/plenum.Poston 2800 stall and shift kit. On the way home it took over 3 hours to drive from DC to Richmond stop and go traffic, car never complained a bit, Wife was one getting HOT!! she was driving at the time. Also we are only the second owners of this car bought it in Oct,88 and the car has over 200,000mi on it now and still smile alot when the gauge hits round 16 on 93.

I have a Max-effort mass air-less set-up with a modded factory ecm and 72lb injectors. Does mine qualify as a street car when I drove 2 1/2 hours, clicked off 5 runs between 11.20 and 11.30 and drove home with the slicks in the trunk?

Not with a Translator, and tuned properly. The aftermarkets in an effort to make them as easy as possible to use, don't bother letting you having access to the finer points. Not to mention some people are happy where some are asking, how do you even drive this. Not slamming anyone, just some folks are easy to please.
