what makes a turbo spool loud (whistle)

I have a 85 hot-air....i am looking to upgrade to a TA33c from my facory unit. Other than the perfomance gains, i love the loud whistle sound of the spool. I want my new turbo to be pretty loud. I am just curious what makes some louder than others..impeller? downpipe diameter? compressor design?.....

Smaller wheels and larger diameter free flowing exhaust systems. Turbos with ported shrouds tend to be louder than one without the ported shroud option and same size wheels. This is just from my experience. I heard a car a while back burnout and spool up and it whistled like crazy. I saw it on YouTube. Belonged to Richie high psi.

a big air filter and a big inlet pipe. you will really hear the compressor wheel then.

Yeah I can really hear the turbo when I open my exhaust dump.

With the exhaust cutout...do you hear more turbo than motor?..because your bypassing the muffler as well....it looks like a really cool add-on. Especially for track days.
