well i'm getting ready to take my gn to the paint and body shop, i got pretty much everything that needs to be replaced. Now i know this might sound nuts, but i already talked to a person i know about doing the body work - which is a bit of rust on the lower doors, which do have small dents ( like when someone opens a car door and hit's it ) and a small bit of rust on the trunk, i told him i want no rust coming back, i want good quality work done , if you have to cut the metal and then do some welding so be it, that and that DAM crack that always comes back ( drivers side top, about 2-3 inch's after the drivers window ends ) there's a crack there i thought i did a good job, but it still shows.

well that and putting on the door seals and weather stripping, and putting on the new fillers, ya know normal stuff. I talked to german who is the guy that painted my car last time, which did look really nice, ( see pix's ) only i never had the car detailed? (- REASON- the guy wanted me to leave the car there and come back in 5-6 hours, i told him i'll wait he, he said" i don't like nobody watching me while i work" i told him forget it, i don't leave my car alone ( thats how they make copies of your keys -F*CK that  )- well back to german- he said he'll do the job for only $2400  i don't think that's with the paint, it sounds like a great price right?

is this about normal price? i thought it would cost more i wanted to have a checker'd flag painted on the front of the car ( kind of like a car breaking thru it) i know i may be nagging but i don't want to pay for something i'm not happy with. Does anyone know of a fair priced paint and body guy? not just someone who see's our cars and see's dollar signs.

thanks,
C.

sorry but to me rust is rust and it's goin to come back unless ya get involved and eliminate ALL of it .. its like cancer  .. look for rust behind the windshield and rear glass to .. that price sounds way to cheap to me  he is not spending a long time on the car for that kind of $$$$ ... good luck

I just got a 1972 GS painted and switched colors. They did it for $3600 and it looks awesome. It also took 7 months though.

You sound paranoid to me?

You have everyright to be paranoid. At that quoted price/estimate, I would be too. Did you tell this guy that you would like to have references, verify their quality, assess the happiness & satisfaction of previous customers.

it's not being paranoid, it's being careful with my money, i'm sorry i forgot to include the pics from last time he painted the car ( but here they are ) it looks great but it did have, small things like a small piece of hair on the paint, a couple of small things that might have been able to be buffed out ( maybe  ) and i did all the body work last time ( which i know i did'nt do my best job, i am working with only one good hand.) and darkred they did an awesome job on your turbo, my bumpers never came off, the only thing that came off was the headlight bezels? and even then i did that
to me the way Darkred had his car done is the right way to do it.

and yes the pics look good but it was far from perfect it had it's spots of dripping( when the paint runs ) I'm putting alot of money in this car with a nice new motor and all the new goodies i don't want a half a$$ paint job.

and the clear coat you see on the car was $200 bucks for 1 gallon

Thanks, I stripped the car before I brought it into the shop to save some cash. Also, a friend of mine was a new manager at a new shop at the time so I saved some money by being their first car. There were some small items like the antenea and headlight brackets that I forgot to remove and they had a guy there who didn't know what he was doing work on that stuff. Needless to say, there were some little things that I had to go back over when I got it back.. All in all though, I'm pleased. If you do decide to strip it before paint, be carefull putting it back together when it's done. New paint gets scratched very easily. :frown: Good luck.

This paintjob cost $6800. I'd gladly do it for $4000, but it would have come out better. ;)
