What should I do with my car?

I just got stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota. I hear it doesn't snow too much there, but it snows enough. Obviously I won't be able to drive the Grand National during the winter months. I will be there for roughly two to three years.

I really want to keep my car, there is no doubt about that. I'm wanting to get another car, lease or purchase for those winter months. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Buy a early model front wheel GM with the 3.8.
Should be able to pickone up for 1000-1500.
I drive a 90 Pontiac with 200,000 miles.
Not sporty or pretty but very reliable.

I have relatives who are farmers in Minot. From what I hear from them, they get plenty of snow. Also the cold temps are what is the killer out there. Park the GN away somewhere for the winter.

Pick up an old Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with the 6 cylinder.

Not quite as reliable as a GN in the winter but it should get you where you want to go for cheap.

Plenty of parts and stuff and nobody can tell how old it is from about 85 to 98 or so, they mostly look alike.

The older you get the more fun you can have fixing it up.

i was stationed at glasgow,afb. montana which is right down the road from minot.
make sure you bring alot long john's you will need them

hat progress1, being prior service myself, i know you don't want to spend to much, hay salvage my 94 jeep grand cherrokee, has way better traction in the snow than any gn ever will. i should know i trailered my gn on a flatbed useing my jeep, in snow from rockchester ny--to--miami,fl.

back to ya progress1 a jeep would be great, when i did my time away (korea) i purchased a beater with a heater from a gi who was heading home, as it turned out i did the same thing, sold it to private before i left. Let me ask you a question, will they let you ship 2 cars ( your gn and whatever) or is your wife( if married) bringing her car? a truck or jeep might cost more out there cause they're more used out there, can you get a liaison
to give you info

I said reliable as in able to keep running without breaking something.

Although the stuff you break on a Jeep is usually accessories and electrical stuff never much in the motor area.

Traction is why I suggested the Jeep 4x4 in the first place.

Although I never had too much problem with my TR and 4 blizzak snow tires.

Not the best on gas but my 85 gmc sierra 2500 4x4 has been the best winter vehicle ever. powertrax locker in back air locker in front 4.56 gears 205 t-case built 700 and a mild 350,
it's gone 140k like this and not one problem "Knock" and I am hard on it. I can send you some picks and video of it plowing through 3 ft of snow way off the road never got stuck EVER.

I would take the GN and park it for the winter. Get an every day driver after you get there - that way the block heater will already be installed.

Yes, the bad thing is that I'll be heading out there at the beginning of December.

How would leasing a car for say, three or four months sound? I don't really thing I can afford something I really want right now (obviously). I need something at least half way reliable (I don't know how good of a car I can get for about 1000-2000).

The problem is, I'm doing payments on my car now and I want to take the GN off the insurance for the winter, but I don't know if my classic car insurance company will let me do that.
