I had to take my front tint strip off for it to pass state inspection. Glue ALL over the place. What should I use to get it off? Thanks ---

Park the car outside so the glass can get hot. Lay a trash bag across your dash. Spray a LOT of non-diluted Simple Green all over the glue. Let it set for a bit. Go back and spray some more on then hit it with a razor blade or some steel wool. Should come right off.

Damn, I never thought of the steel wool ... I'm guessing to only use the 0000 so it wont scratch the glass?

The razor blade sorta worries me because its pretty easy to scratch the glass and that would suck.

Obviously right now if I touch it , it just smears like tar would on your paint

Thanks guys :) ---

Worked at a tint shop in the mid 90's, & to remove tint from a window with a defroster we'd spray amonia on it and cover that with a garbage bag parked in the sun (Probably before simple green came out?), I've used the steel wool many times, even the razor blade if held right will not scratch the glass.

? what state you are in. In Virginia state inspectors can't bust you for tint but 5O can.

Acetone from your favorite hardware store, and use a clean soft towel.

It dries fast so keep the rag damp but not soaking.

No bags, towels, soaking, masking, or scraping.

It's a great fast drying solvent but keep the rag moving as the glue will go back on the window off the rag if you keep wiping with the same part.

Sometimes you can take the tint off without leaving any glue on the windows. At my shop we use straight ammonia. Spray on the ammonia and let it sit for a few minutes. Repeat this a couple of times, then hit it with steam. Use a razor blade to scrape it off. The glue should come right off. Shouldnt take more than 15 minutes to do. If you dont have a steamer just let the Ammonia sit for a few minutes longer, and keep it a little wet, and dont let it dry. Will take a little longer, but the end result will be the same.
