I run a 160 degree thermostat but on 70+ degree days my car cruises at 168-173 degrees and while idleing my car gets between 182-192 degrees.

Is this bad?

Also, should my radiator fan kick on when I shut my car down and temps are reading above 180 degrees?

What could be the cause of these things?

Any info is greeatly appreciated, THANKS

My car has a 160 thermostat and runs the same temps as yourself. Also, the fan should come on after you turn the car off and run for 10 minutes with the temp you mentioned. Sounds pretty normal to me.

I have been wondering this myself.

I run identical temps as you.

I have a direct fan switch switch I leave running all the time.

Everything sounds good to me. Around here, you would be lucky to have your car running that cool. My car during the summer runs up around 220 and insane crap like that. I think i have seen it even higher than that. When it gets up like that i usually pull into a car wash and hose the rad. down until the numbers are back around 170. Car is going back togeather with a big rad. this time. I already have the elec. water pump from DeQuick and a 2800 cfm fan, hope it is better this year.
