Any ideas? Im leaving tomorrow night to New Orleans, I don't know if I can last 12 hours on a plane, arrrrgh.

Laptop w/DVD player... I watched 3 of the extra disks that came with my box set of Lord of the Rings this past year while traveling for work all over the place. :) I had 3 batteries for my Dell and it got me going for a while. You may have a power outlet on your flight...not sure.

Get 10hours of sleep. You need it for Bourbon Street and the boobie bars.;)

Or you can buy a DVD player and a few movies and a headset, but dont watch them all on the trip to or you have to watch re-runs on the way back.

They make DVD players that hook-up to the laptops? Or do the laptops come with the DVD players installed? Thanks! Also, what movies? The Rocky series for sure (excluding 5).

Most newer laptops come with them standard or for a small upcharge. Or you could buy a personal DVD player @ Bestbuy or something...

I just came back from Hawaii 2 months ago, been to Austrailia and Japan. Let me tell you , there is nothing you can do to make the long trip enjoyable. I do have a couple tips that may help though. If you are traveling in a pair, ask for the aisle and window seat leaving the middle seat open ( that's if the seats are in a 3 per row configuration). Most of the time that middle seat will remain open giving you much more room to get comfortable. Also, you can try and request the fire exit seats which will give more leg room (i'm 6'4"). As far as something to do, I always bring some car mags to read cover to cover because I can never get comfortable enough to sleep. Enjoy your flight. :D

Are you a movie buff ?
Wife and I recently vacationed in London. Average 9 hr flight from DFW. Our plane ran like 4 or 5 new release movies plus sitcom FRIENDS Tv show and other programs most of the way.
I surfed and the wife coudn't do a damn thing about it ;)

Invite the stewardesses to a hotel party in your room the night you arrive. Do I have to think of everything?

Also join the mile high club as many times as possible.

Also tip 40's the whole time so you fall down on the jetway.

Take off your pants, an run up an down the aisle singing the Barney theme song. Then ask people if they would like a hug.

On a 10 hour flight, I would spend 9 hours looking for suspicious arabs......:D

To compliment all the other comments...

1. Bring a laptop with a DVD and allot of battery power
2. Get some sleep on the flight for Bourbon Street and the "boobie Bars"
3. Start DRINKING!
a. Before Complete intoxication "look for suspicious arabs"
b. "Take off your pants, an run up an down the aisle singing the Barney theme song. Then ask people if they would like a hug."

4.After you join the mile high club, invite the stewardess to your hotel for a little Cajun Action and brib her with Beads...

Throw up as necessary... ;)

Well, I can only tell you what I have done on my long flights and since I can't sleep at all in a plane and usually the stewardesses were never THAT pretty (at least as I'm concerned ):p , I usually take books and a whole lot of music with me, paper and pens to write to whoever or a lap top. Usually boredom is also interrupted by food or talking to somebody, you will never meet again, hopefully! You can usually keep yourself occupied for at least 10 hours and if you are travelling with somebody the last 2 hours should go by, too!

Have a nice trip!

You can make an application to the "Mile High Club" and if you're lucky, you'll never see them again either! :)

I'm terrified of flying and I have a 13hr flight to Greece in a couple weeks. Never done it before and it's already keeping me up at night. I have a bottle of Vicotin just for that flight. The plane isn't the only thing that's going to be flying.

GREECE!!! I ENVY YOU! Bring me back a mail order bride.. :D

I have flown my P-3 from hawaii to jacksonville fl in 12 hours, its a slower plane than the DC-10/757/767/747 you are going to be on, so I imagine it should not take 12 hours, ours was with no wind over the water and a good tail wind over the states...hopefully when you reach CA your pilot will find the jetstream and that will help....I do believe i have also flown from ST louis to hawaii in 8 hours on a DC-10.

but yeah, movies and mile high club sound like great time wasters....

i have yet to join that club and i fly for a living :(

Haha thanks for the suggestions guys. Im heading to walmart now to pick up some dvd's! Then, I better buy some fashionable underwear if I'm going to be running around in them singing the barney song. As for the mile high club... uhh.. where? In the bathroom? hehe. Thanks for all the suggestions guys/gals!

Make a plan..

I agree with Dan, that flight shouldn't take THAT long unless you do a lot of circling over the airport.

I've flown back and forth from Washington DC to Germany many times... (try moving your belongings 140 lbs at a time). :) That's an 8 hour flight, approximately.. not to mention all the hassle of airports, security and such. I wish my laptop had a DVD player because that would REALLY take the time out.

I just use the Boy Scout motto 'Be Prepared'. I make sure I bring ANYTHING I might need. I know I've been on a plane a few times before and not felt too well, that SUCKS. So I have medicine for headaches (hangovers), motion sickness (although I don't get motion sickness) as well as PLENTY of entertainment. I bring a DISCMAN and tons of CDs that I usually burn before I leave. I also bring car magazines.

If you really are having a problem, try this. Make a plan. I'm a teacher, I make plans all the time. Try to plan your time out. Remember to divide your time up into sections. Maybe read for the first hour. Play Gameboy for the next hour, or whatever games you have on your laptop. Third hour, listen to CDs or watch a DVD movie. Remember to break it up. Attention span usually lasts about 30 - 45 mins before it needs a change. Between activities, walk around the plane. Get a bit of exercise. Take another hour and write a list of all the things you need to fix on your GN... (this took me a couple of hours) :) In the time that it takes, that'll help you gauge how much longer to go and help time go by. Also, as any teacher will tell you, NO PLAN EVER GOES AS PLANNED. You'll have problems following and revising your plan. Remember, the meal will come and you'll have to interupt your plan. The person next to you may strike up a conversation. Your plan will have problems. So much so that you'll be mad that you're already there and didn't get everything done.

Hope that helps.

They do that in Greece? I'll look around for you :) . I'm not looking forward to this trip, I kind of got talked into it. That part of the world is not a good place to be in right now.
