1 catch can for the PCV system & another for valve cover breathers .
Made a bracket & Mounted on the flat spot on passenger inner fender well beside the battery .
I just installed the newest style two stage catch can from Motion Raceworks (link here) behind the driver side headlights. You have to hug the frame rail, close but not touching, but if fits perfectly....the header panel barely pushes on the filter but nothing I'm concerned about. For the vacuum line I bought a 10AN ORB fitting with a 1/8 NPT center hole. From there I drilled and tapped it with a 3/8 NPT tap (you won't tap the entire "length" of the hole) to accept the 3/8 push to connect fitting. I couldn't find this fitting ready to buy, but maybe I didn't look in the right places. With this setup I'm able to remove the filter through the oval hole behind the catch can and install / remove the 10AN crankcase line. It's also easy to drain under the front bumper.
I ran the 10AN line along the driver side fender and then through the oval hole to the catch can...I checked and there is plenty of clearance for the hood to close without any interference. (The 3/8 vacuum line is hiding under the 10AN line...both fit)
I am working on a new setup for my GN. Will post some pics later of the mockup. Got one of Moroso's larger style oil/air separators, not vented. Has a billet mounting bracket that I made an adapter to bolt up to a t bolt clamp with a bracket. T bolt clamp goes around the AC accumulator. Now I am doing this while the motor is out so hoping that I will have enough clearance to the downpipe for the drain off of it.
Yes but try to find a 3.5" one. I also bent the t bar a bit to get it to fit better. Like I said I am still experimenting and if I ever get my motor installed will post more. I am hoping it is going to fit! Have one of Whoosh motorsports PCV and a Racetronix check valve plus fittings, hoses ready to go.
Has anyone here tried this new ‘catch tank’ from Motion? I got one for Christmas and am in the process of installing it on my 87 GN.
Pretty cool piece for a turbo car. The vacuum port has a built in check vale that closes under boost but still pulls thru the PCV valve under vacuum. The filtered vent stays closed but will open when the crankcase goes positive (pressure).
I’ve ordered a new MAF pipe from earlbrown, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I’ll be adding a filtered air port to the passenger valve cover similar to the factory set-up when the MAF pipe gets here..
