I never really cared until now about a real good phone (RIP Audiovox smt5600) my recent ones have been soso for functionality. What good phones do you guys use that can do pop email and in some way get connected to a laptop and allow data access.

Yea, I know. it's looking like I will be handing money over for the iphone...

I have the instinct from sprint and i love it its a touchscreen and has tons of apps visual voice mail so you can delete messages without listening to them.. movie phone ,gps sprint tv etc..I got the $100 a month unlimited plan and it also does the email and comes with a spare battery and charger that fits in ur pocket and plugs into ur car or house charger so you never have to have the cord hangin off the phone while you are talkin on it .....

What type of email servers can you connect to? I thought it just supported web based systems?

that im not sure of i just use yahoo..but ive gotten messages from hotmail and aol and ive been able to reply back but im not a huge phone techie so i dont really know the difference between web based email and others..Just like some phones are windows based vs palm based (treo) im not sure and i dont wanna give bad info...

When my contract with US Cellular is up, I will be heading down to Verizon. I'm gonna pick me up a Samsung Omnia. The Omnia is now 170 dollars plus you get a 70 dollar rebate in the mail. Since the Omnia is a smartphone you need to get the data plan, which is 30 dollars a month.

Trust me, get the iPhone and you'll be more than happy. I'm on my second generation "3G" iPhone now and would not know how to function without it. I passed my first one down to my wife cause she has wifi access at her job, now she is in love with her phone also. Trust me it's well worth every penny.

Verizon sucks there service is great but their customer service is not..I have a verizon mobile broadband card in my laptop and i am an expedite truck driver i was sitting in texas at a tr stop waitin on another load my aircard picked up a mexican tower..mind you theres no roam light or indicater on the card its 59 a month wherever you use it in the country..Well i open my bill and its $192 dollars  After an hour of being tranferred and talkin to different people a superviser said all they could do was knock 30 bucks off needless to say i was pissed and i wont be renewing my contract sprint you can always negotiate with if you talk to a supervisor..Ive gotten numerous credits for everything from excessive dropped calls(i 730 nextel) to them discontinuing a phone after it was only 4 months old on that one they gave me 175 toward a new phone all ya gotta do is ask..not a regular service rep tho and when you call ask for a supervisor dont explain your problem to the service rep if you are seeking a credit..the service rep will tell you no..Then when you ask for a supervisor they will disconnect you mysteriously while you are on hold so you dont get them in trouble..Its sounds moronic i know but ive had nextel/sprint for like 10 years now on my cell so ive learned the tricks..In a perfect world you wouldnt have to jump through hoops and have problems in the first place but at least with sprint if you jump through hoops it pays off vs verizon they act like they could care less.. I wont even mention the tech support nightmare with the air card when it stopped working three different times not relateted to the actual card it was a service prob...I was on the phone like 7 hrs the first time and had the Dell tech and the Verizon tech on three way screaming at each other ??!!!!!!!!! I cant speak on any others cause i havent had the pleasure of dealing with them yet...

There are talks with apple and verizon. the At&t contract is almost up finally. Verizon needs to get on the GSM platform nationally first, not just internationally. Also a new 3rd generation iPhone is predicted to come out in june or july. So I would wait till then. I know the 3g iPhone batteries are not as good as the first generation iPhone. Hopefully the casing goes back to metal and not plastic.

If you think for a second that Verizon will move from CDMA to an older clumbsy technology like GSM you're kidding yourself. They (verizon) do make a few "world" phones with two radios in them, one CDMA and one GSM. Apple would have to produce the i-phone with a CDMA radio in it before Verizon would even consider talking to them again. Especially in light of the "snob-off" that Apple gave Verizon during initial talks on what technology the i-phone would initially embrace.
Verizon has become far to big and successful to worry about the likes of the i-phone.
While the i-phone makes for a great toy and has tons of wonderful apps, it pretty much sucks in most areas as a cell phone.

From what I heard, Verizon is bidding on the next contract if apple does not stay with AT&T end of this year. I don't know if there gonna switch to GSM just for the iPhone, but it would be interesting to get a CDMA/GSM iPhone to hack for any carrier. But, I prefer T-mobile on my iPhone.

I bought a old school Razor V3 From Wallyworld which was a Go Phone for $100 and a Sierra Wireless AT&T Internet card for my laptop and they both work like a champ! Keeps me intouch with you yahoo's on here

Verizon doesn't have iPhone. Get a BlackBerry. Whatever you do, don't get the LG Dare.

Mine freezes up then I have to remove the battery to reset it. To many steps to use the phone. The touch screen responds but doesn't do anything. I'm just not that happy with it. I'm not a fan of the touch screen. And yes, they've replaced the phone and I got the updates.

Once Aug comes, (1 year w/ the Dare) I'm getting a BlackBerry.
