I want to know what is the most advantageous, not just personal preference. I have a 67 turbo on the way and want to know what is the best for a car driven mostly on the street and that could sit in traffic. I am looking at the precision stock loc. intercooler or one of the various FMIC out there? I would like feedback.

This has been beat to death !!!! Just do a search  ... My "OPINION" is a stock location for a street car unless ya need the "bling" effect for the car shows. everyone knows what "opinions" are :p oh just saw you were in Texas.... doesn't it get really hot there??? all the more reason for a stock location ..

I just put a big FMIC on mine, but no traffic for me. If it was a daily driver, with potential traffic sitting, I'd do a really good SLIC. Maybe even a big radiator, then there will never be an issue no matter how hot and how long the traffic wait is. ;)

The only thing I have noticed on the PTE SLIC was it rubbed on the hood insulator. At least on the 3 cars I presonally saw myself. Another thing is depending on what turbo housing you have it may not line up with the SLIC. I know the H cover(4 in 3 out) does not line up with the PTE SLIC. Both have pros and cons. Just gotta figure out what you want. You may need extra cooling if you go with a FM on a driver.

I have a FMIC and with dual fans don't have a problem with heat.

I would get a huge stock location, alky and be done with it. Alky changes a lot concerning intercooler needs. Low pressure drop and a short path are what make some of those SMIC very desirable for street cars.

That's not good because I have the "H" cover, which one if you know lines up with it? Or what has to be modified?

I have a tony dequick V1 (like the 2nd or 3rd largest FMIC that is made for these cars) and my car stays at a solid 170*F all day long with dual electric fans....It may creep up to 175ish when idling for awhile, but thats nothing to be worried about. I dont think i have ever seen these cars have overheating problems with a FMIC... they sure do look nice behind our huge front grilles, also!

Say cheese! :D

Patrcik Rubio had the H cover and PTE SLIC. He ended up going to a FM. I have a PTE FM on my car. Just a weekend/track car. I had a totally stock cooling system on it and it was fine on 90 degree days with the AC on. I had this set up for 9 years. I just upgraded to PTS aluminum radiator this past summer. I did not need to do it, but I did it anyway.

This is my 6776 H cover and a V4

I've got a big assed Mease MPE stock location intercooler I run with alky, lined up well with the new 6776BB turbo with 4" inlet-2 1/2" outlet. I run dual fans as well. Hell, I live in central FLA. No way I was going with a front mount. This thing flows PLENTY. But....I don't know if you can even still get this IC anymore. Regardless, find youself a big stock location unit and go play in traffic.

IMO from what I've seen on friends cars with front mounts here in sunny California, they run a liitle warm. I have a SLIC and no cooling issues. No need for dual fans or aluminum radiator here. Bottom line, lots of street driving, SLIC. This is just an opinion of course ;)

I had to cut about 1 1/2" inches off the PTE inlet neck. For some reason the H cover outlet sticks out real far and the PTE inlet is long also. To get a straight shot from turbo to IC it made the PTE push real close to the radiator. Nothing would bolt up.The whole IC was cocked real bad. It is kinda hard to explain but I do have some pics in this turbo section when I did the "modifications". I dont remember when I wrote it. Must have been this past summer or fall. I had spoke to Patrick(RUQWKNF) about this and he confirmed it is a problem. Once I cut it and put my hose and clamps on it you cant even tell it was done. You either have to cut the IC or fabricate/modify the brackets to get the IC to bolt up...your choice.

As far as front mount...I took mine off. I live in Louisiana and my car did not like those 99% humidity, 99 degree days idling in traffic with that front mount. Get a stcok location and throw some alky at it and your good to go.

Dont be afraid to get that PTE because you have to modify it..its a great IC. Besides isnt that why we own TR's..to work on them all the time. :D

I believe PTE makes the biggest bar and plate core SMIC for us, that would be my choice as it will have the lowest pressure drop across the core. Then the alky will cool it down to the point to where you can run so much boost you will be looking for the Huggies in glove box.

Maybe PTE will mod the SMIC if you got the H cover from them. Actually I am kind of surprised they don't already know about this and are doing this for customers who buy both ( almost $2k in purchases )??

F body aluminum rad is a nice upgrade to the cooling system for around $120. Not a big deal IMO with the FMIC. Also have a V2 and Ram Fans.

Id like to bring a different perspective to this FM Stock loc argument , the Frontmount works great when you hit a telephone pole doing 50something and dont have your seatbelt on , cutting it in two . Acts like a crash absorber, Sort of like those crash barriers on the back of road work trucks you see . Thanks ESP and GOD for my living :D

how many of you are still running your intercooler fan on the crank pulley with the big SLIC.

87 NAT, what kind of set-up do you have for your MAF pipe set-up and do you have any pics? Any other modifications needed?
