Whats the biggest size turbo made in the TA line up? (just to clearify the biggest stck appearing turbo ever) Also when running a BB turbo other than a Tnetics is it mandatory to run coolant through it? Are there ant BBs in the stock appearing lineup?? Tia Jeff

Very cool piece... That thing looks awesome. Very nice... Thanks for the input..

As far as coolant running thru the turbo I would have to say yes it is mandatory. The BB turbos have a cartridge that is sealed in which the shaft resides. This cartridge is enclosed therefore the only method of cooling it is by heat transfer with your radiator water/coolant. Although you still need just a mist of oil with the BB turbos...not the massive amount needed with your standard journal bearing turbos.

I am not sure if I answered this 100% correct. Patrick will chime in on this one. I am but a young grasshopper...:D

TA-66 GT-Q journal bearing is correct. This was the class winning turbo that was used on TSS class cars, before they changed the rules to allow 67mm compressor wheel and an E cover into the class.

You answered well young grass hopper.. :D

Just to add more.
Only the Garrett dual ball bearing equipped turbos, such as those sold by PTE, and other Precision dealers, require water coolant lines as well as an oil feed line. A few of the most popular turbo models are these, PT6031RE, PT6131RE, PT6131RS, PT6776RE, PT6776RS, PT6776RH, PT7080RH, PT7280RH, PT7480RH, PT7680RH.

The T-netics ball bearing turbos do not necessarily have to have water run through them. Those still use the oil somewhat in order to cool the cartridge down. Sometimes you will see the T-netics turbos with "Wet" bearing housings, sometimes they will have standard oil cooled bearing housings with no water provisions. Here as of late, most of the new BB T-netics turbos I have seen people post pictures of, have the water coolant passages. I'm sure it comes down to whatever they have available at time of order placement. Jack has received the T-netics bb turbos both ways. It doesn't hurt a thing to run water through the T-netics turbos either, it only helps them live longer.

im still waiting to hear back from Mr. Cotton to see if he can make me a Ta-66BB or not. i have also sent another vendor asking them if they could make me one and still no answer. i cant call them or i would. Should be pretty sweet if you could run a 66bb.

Don't forget the Innovative dual BB turbos, they also require water lines for daily driving.

And they've been making rebuildable double BB turbos since back in the days when all you heard was, "oil contamination" and "BB turbos don't work" from PTE. :p

Oooops. ;)

Turbonetics makes a 66BB not sure if it can be a TA style inlet or not.

CPT66, 3000-3200 stall.

I want to get a TA-66 BB with a carbon seal backing plate made. Can anyone do it? If so how much and how long of a wait?

I think the biggest problem you're gonna find with all of the turbo suppliers, is the backing plate compatibility issue when being used with the ball bearing cartridges.

I don't know if T-netics even offers a carbon seal backing plate for the TA series turbos, as really the only other applications that would require one, would be carbed blow through bikes, and some carbed blow through VWs. Why not do the conversion to your car and relocate the turbo?
Maybe Jack will hear back from his gurus at T-netics and get you an answer soon. Are you worried about clearance issues with the compressor cover in the stock location and that is why you want the TA cover? If so, the clearance differences between a TA and a TE cover are very minuscule.
Just some food for thought.

Patrick

Patrick thanks for the response back. I really want to keep the turbo in its factory location thats why i need to have the TA cover. If i couldnt get a BB turbo which i really want i would settle with just a TA-66 with the carbon backing plate.
