I have a TE45a now. Ported, polished and bigger valve stock heads. Roller cam, stretch intercooler, fuel cell, art car 9" non lock convertor. I am wondering what 3 bolt turbo would be a big improvement over the TE45a?

I would go with a TA51, that only requires a 2800 stall and it has good street manners for a good all around turbo. If you want to use all of your converter's potential then I would go with a TA54.

I am wanting to go to a bigger, or mabey more effient turbo. You are saying to go to a smaller turbo. A TE inlet is bigger than a TA inlet. I don't see why I would want to get rid of my art car 9" non lock up convertor a go to one with a lower stall.?????????

Well maybe if you had posted an actual stall speed rather than just a size of your converter and what you want to do with the car.....ex. street, street/strip, full race I would have been able to help you better. Sorry for offering unwanted advice.

So your running low 10's? I do some tuning on a car with a 45a that has ran a 6.29 at 109 in the eighth mile and felt like the turbo had a little more left. If you want to step up I would look at a 70 series Q wheel..That should take you mid 9's or better.

Wow. did'nt realize a TE45a was good to low 10's. I think I better get that FAST system installed first and then go from there. I was just wondering if there was something that spooled faster than a TE45a. I have a maxeffort maffless system right now and no matter how much tuning I do with it, it just is doing what I need it to do. Thanks-CS

The car still has a stock ecm, 60 lb injectors, 3500 stall, dual nozzle alcohol system, ported IRON heads and intake, pte FM, 210/210 roller cam, oh ya and a single intake pump. What stall are you currently running? Have you messed with the spool up features on Steve's chip? I hope your tuning with a wide-band o2.

I am not sure on the stall. I have an ART CARR non-lockup 9" convertor. Mabey around 3200-3500? I have not messed around with spool up features yet. I'm running 83Lb injectors and using an innovative stand alone wide band. I have been reading alot about the FAST system and it sure looks to be alot better then what I have now as far as tuning abilties.
Cme2fly, How fast has your car went with that setup?

FAST is a great product but isn't necessary to run in the 10's in my opinion. I wouldn't consider it unless I was running 9.80 or better consistently..there is better places to spend your money. Car is running low 6's in the eighth..havent ran it in the quarter yet, but I have ran a local 02 Zo6 vette with bolt ons and a 200 shot and put about two cars on him. His car runs 132 to 134ish in the quarter. What are your wide band numbers at WOT top of third gear? How much boost?

I don't know the 02 numbers or boost. I did not race the car at all last year. I blew a head gasket the year before with 55 lb injectors at 30 lbs of boost. I didn't have the car to the track but on the steet I beat a 10.5 car about 3 lenghts or so. I just got done upgrading to an external magnafuel pump. I think that with the 83lb injectors that I will be fine now. Since now I know there is alot left in the turbo, I will just stick with what I got an get it tuned at the track this summer. Thanks for all your help. CS

Watch your wide band and tune accordingly..I run between 28 and 30 pounds everytime the car goes out. If your having problems with the Max Effort system give Steve a call he's more than willing to lend a hand. Good luck and enjoy it.

Brett Rudbeck and Louie L have run 10.teens with a te45a. The time in my sig is @ 22-23 lbs, 1st time at the track with a conservative/safe tune. I have a ton left. Get to a track to tune. Trying to determine what you will run vs. a 10.xx car isn't "exact", to say the least. What if he was sandbagging trying to get a money race with somebody thats watching the run.;) Not to mention the safety factor.

Your ET is all in the 60 foot. If you don't know what your doing(time wise) you don't know what to change.FWIW.

what exactly is a Te45a again? is it a 63mm with big housing? or 64,66mm?

I ve got a reconditioned T-70 by John Craig Limited Turbo with a Precision .85 exhaust housing unused since reconditioning which i would trade you outright fot the 45 turbo. 4" inlet & 2.5" outlet. Matt 347 680 8642.

You need to include your boost/timing/tires... and some time slip data... so we can see if you are getting anywhere close for the potential of a 45A... If you aren't mid to high 10's at 125+ or mid to high 6's in the 1/8..... you need to tune.... oh.... need 60' times as well....

ok. will get to the track this spring. As I understand the TE45a turbo is good to the low 10's. I was just wondering what ball bearing turbo would be a little bigger and have faster spool up than the TE45a? Thanks-CS

It is hard to say.... if you haven't yet maxed out the 45A... the 70BB or other won't be running at it's full potential either... get the most out of what you got first... then look at changing.... not sooner.

IMHO... low 10's are possible if all the stars line up right.... but there are plenty in the mid to high 10's..... so IMHO... don't upgrade til you have gone at least 10.60's with the 45A.... just my opinion...

As far as spoolup... a friend went 1.48 60' time on a 5 lb launch.. no NOS...with the 45A... that is spooling up plenty fast... just because it is an old school turbo don't mean it won't spoolup decent...any who have run this turbo say it is one bad mofo on a Buick turbo 6.
