This is called the uppipe. A new one is expensive at jaysgn.com for $200. Solve your problem forever. Otherwise look for good used one here on the board. Brad

thanks brad. its called a up pipe got ya. is this the reson why when i spool up to 5 psi my car stutters...

when i replace this will it stop my car from boggin under 5 psi.

yea there is carbon all over my valve cover on the passenger side.
and on the pipe it self.

This can cause your stutter. The more important issue is this may be a fire hazzard. I personally would not drive the car until you replace the uppipe. I am sure that a good used one can be found here as well as calling GBODYPARTS on the phone. I bought the Jays uppipe only because my car will always be a hot air which made the cost easier to swallow. Brad

thanks man you were a big help. i will look into this as soon as i get paid next week. and by the looks of it it dont look hard to install. just a few bolts, and a gasket if im correct. but thanks so much. you were a big help.

If the uppipe flange where the uppipe meets the turbo is cracked GBODYPARTS does make new one as well. The uppipe leaks without this triangle 3 hole flange. Take care. brad

the flex joint in the middle of mine blew out a few years ago and burnt a hole in the hood insulation and cooked the paint on the hood.. my fix was to take the pipe off, cut the flex joint out, and weld in a chunk of 2" pipe. i wrapped it with some header wrap to keep the heat out of the alternator and make it look extra race ready.
it runs better and spools up faster now that the flex joint is gone- the stock piece actually necks down to about 1.5" in there..

if you don't want to do the work or don't have the tools, then take it to an exhaust shop.. i was quoted $75 to make a new 2.5" pipe with all new flanges at a small shop.

I would do this if I were you. Can't beat 75$ compared to 200$.

yea i should just take it to a muffler shop. ima see what i do this friday when i get paid. will keep you guys posted.

i have a used one for sale if you are interested, i just converted my car to the 87 setup so i have a bunch of used 85 parts, pm me if you want it

i replaced mine with the 200 dollar stainless pipe they are talking about, looks great and works wonderfull. Was a lil tight getting on b/c even though its called a flex joint they dont flex much. I have two stock up pipes, one with a leaky flex joint and one with the joint already taken off and new one ready to weld on. Muffler guy i know was going to fix one for me but i liked the 200 dollar one so much i went with it instead. If you want i can get you a quote to ship it to you, no cost for either of the pipes. I would recommend that when you go to fix it this way, take it to a shop and have them loose fit the new up pipe on and tack weld it up in the right position. take it off and then have them weld it all the way around. This way you know its dead on right b/c like i said those flex joints dont flex much. Let me know and ill dig out thsoe up pipes and take a look at them. if you want the new flex joint with one i might have to see what my guy has in the joint, prob like 20 bucks.
