Hey Fellow Hot Air Boys,
First of all, thanks for all the help with my questions. This place is the greatest resource out there.
Now, I have extreme engine bay envy. I see some of you guys have fabricated up and down pipes. Let's start with the down pipe.....does anyone know a source to have one fabbed or should i try locally? Also, with the up pipe, I see some of you still have the stretchy part in the middle and some do not. Is it bad for the car or turbo not to have that section in there? Let me know!! Thanks Again!

flanges

i have 2 flanges left to make downpies left. they are 110.00 shipped. let me know. some of the guys has bought them from me.

Nobody makes a downpipe for our car. Try locally. I had a custom 2 1/2 one built with the flange(eliminates the 2 inch turbo elbow) and it cost me $850. If you are going to have one built get the flange from RJC Racing-$129. The two inch turbo elbow means you hace a two inch exhaust.

The upipe sold by Jays GN is basically the same as the stock one. The stock one has the pipe separated and covered in braiding. Jays just puts the braiding in the middle. Stay away from the Poston solid one. It does not work with their headers and is more difficult to install. Good luck- Brad

I bought one of these flanges and it woks great. You have to have the nub for the actuator rod shortened so it does not dig into the hoodliner. Windmill's price is alot better than RJC. I did not know Windmill had any left. Take care- Brad

brian @ gbodyparts will be making a 3inch downpipe soon. might want to contact him for a status update

Brent- Brian has been talking about this downpipe for over a year- no activity. My only point is with a TA33C you only need the downpipe and exhaust that I have- 2 1/2 inch. A three inch downpipe with a TA33C is useless since the exhaust side of the TA33C turbo in 2 inches. Eliminate the stock turbo elbow- 2 inches. A 2 inch turbo elbow means the exhaust system is 2 inches. Simple pipline engineering. Your point is respected because you and Jamie run custom larger turbos than the Hot Air choose not to for pay for and run. You and Jamie need a 3 inch downpipe because your turbo is alot bigger than a stock 84/85 as well as a TA33C. Take care- Brad

brad, i agree with you 100%. the reason i brought up brian @ gbodyparts making them is i sold mine (mease 3ich) to a friend of his so they can start making them now. shouldnt be to long before you see them on his site. but i would call to see what the ETA is on them

Brad,

Brent is right, he sold me his pipe and we forwarded it to brian's fabricator. I'm told it will be done in the next two weeks - of course I get the first one:)
but he's making at least 10 of them. The long wait should be over and Brian advised me they will be affordable

Thats good news for everyone who needs one. I had to do it the hardway as always. At least the the bleeding of my wallet is over. Again, great news. Brad

rod, so that means i can get one cheaper then what i sold it to you for :) j/k im changing mine but cant release the details yet

ha ha, looks that way.. Consider it my debt to all the hot air guys :)
I'm hoping Brian remembers this when I bring my car there..

To whomever is interested. I purchased a used set of Poston Headers and it came with a 3" dp set up for an external wastegate. If anyone is interested in let let me know.

PM me or email me (cwmccray_jr@yahoo.com) a pix of used Postons Headers and External Down pipe.

I plan on changing this, tho i have a stock i believe if you order some pipes(J& U bends from summit/jegs) you can give them to good welder and your old DP or UP and he should be able to make one.Pretty much cut the old tubing n use the new stuff n kept n weld the flanges. The flex pipe you speak of, i have see some without, some with. I would get it but its up to the owner i guess. I know Twins turbo did a history of grand nationals once, they had 2 teams, each got a hot air GN. Then they upgraded some parts, tires, turbo, spark, exhaust etc while showing the history of buick TRs/GNs even background about spark plugs, turbos etc. Whichever team had the best ET wins the CARS one each( 2 plumbers i think and 2 firefighters with each having one of the twins to help. I burned it on DVD its somewhere haha very nice. Anyway they made their own downpipe one i believe a dump out side pipe, the other just welded up a DP from tubing. So it can be done just look around. I'm gonna kept my elbow and just get a 2.5 DP made with a electric cutout , i read somewhere the elbow only needs to go after 450hp i think not sure.

Brent,

I'm away for the Holidays but I'll send you a photo of the DP once I get back.
