Was thinking of changing Torque Converter and mechanic suggests to overhaul Transmission because a failed converter contaminant can affect transmission in the long run.

He also suggests overhaul because of mileage which is around 120K mies.

Overhaul $1800
With 12" Converter 3000 Stall-Totalling $2600.

Please advise.

What's included with the Overhaul for $1800? I wouldn't get the converter for $800 dollars

You can buy a helluva converter, 9 or 10 inch for $800.

Post the goodies on the trans overhaul so we can better inform you whether to walk or run away.

He says to a Stage 1 Level but he did not provide the details.

The total cost includes labor.

get a list of what will be installed and upgraded for that price. the $800.00 for the 12'' converter is way overpriced.

Details of "goodies"

Upgrade Shift Kit,
Direct Clutch Capacity
Over Drive Clutch Capacity
Hardened Stator
Larger Boost Valve
Deep Pan
Replace worn, broken, orings etc..in a typical overhaul

The base price for the 12" Converter is $440.00

The overall price including Labor for Stage I w/ 12" Converter Stall 3000 is $2600.00.

*****What he said.. Go somewhere else, preferably someone who has a good track record working on these trannies in high performance applications.

If it's one of the vendors off this board then it sounds like a good deal because they build the best trannies. If it's some local guy then I'd walk away. I've called every tranny shop around me and the worst I've found was $1600. That was a complete rebuild with shift kit, servo, labor, R&R, and new convertor. Whatever you choose do everyone a favor.....DO NOT GO TO ANY AAMCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my trans built by the most reputable 2004R builder in the Chicagoland area (Jimmys) and it was $1220 with a 2800 stall converter. That includes a rebuild, shift kit, hardened stator and converter. He did not recommend a billet servo until I was into the very low 12s, he said we could always add it in later with no labor charge.

Instead of getting a new 12" Torque conventer. Can I just take the D5 and just have it re-stalled for 3000.

Phone # for Jimmy's

Do U have an number or an address for Jimmy's?

I would like to get my tranny done and I'm in Plainfield.
