Where can you get GE-1200 silicone?

I ordered steel shims the other day and will be using a single. I went to Grainger's, ACE Hardware, Home Depot, Benjamin Lumber and American Home and Hardware and they all looked at me like I was from another planet when I said I needed GE-1200 silicone None stocked it or had a listing to order it I pulled up the spec sheet on 1200 and it is only rated to 450ºF. How well will it hold up in the head/block area? Would I be better off using Hylomar or Copper Coat? Anyone know where I can buy a tube of 1200 or has one for sale?

When we came to that point when we had the stock block, we were in the same prediciment as you. Nobody had any in stock, and thought we were psychos for asking for it. We found a window repair place that had about a 3000 page GE catalog, and they ordered it for us. If your in real desperate need, we have an extra tube here if you want it, we have no need for it anymore, and it only takes one tube for both heads. Let me know

BTW, the silicone held up to repeated 30psi blasts, but I wouldnt recommend it for anymore than that. But for 25psi or so, it cant be beat

You could contact Jason Cramer and buy a tube...supporting a TR vendor is always nice.

I was going to buy the whole kit from Jason but I got a good deal on the shims, just need the goop! I didn't want to ask him for just a tube of 1200 but maybe he will just sell me that. I will call him to see what's up. Thanks!

So are you saying something works better for 25+ PSI blasts? If so, what is it? I don't think I will need higher than 25 PSI to get my 10.80-10.90 I want but you never know

There's nothing that I know of thats any better, but my point was that I don't know if it'll hold up any higher than 30psi, as I dont know of anyone that has done it. Just don't want you to take any chances. BTW, you gotta let this stuff sit for a while. My dad made the mistake of not letting it sit long enough and it actually seperated the 2 steel shims on the one head. But once that was fixed, it never happened again and worked great until the day the motor was sold. Good luck

Well I tried. I tried to buy a tube from Jason today but he wouldn't sell it to me. He would sell me a $99.00 kit with it in it though. He also said the steel shim gaskets had to be trimmed in a few areas to get them to work correctly. I will find it and flood the market when I do.

Trimmed?? hmmmm........I don't remember my dad trimming anything when he installed his, and they worked fine, then again we may have did it wrong. BTW, if you still need the goop, let me know

He wouldn't explain it to me either so I guess I will be like you guys and put them on wrong. Something special done to his shims to make it worth buying the kit according to him.

I believe the "trim" is to drill the steam hole out to 1/4".

And man how fast we turn on someone. Jason is a good guy.

Anyway, when I got some I phoned GE (phone number on the GE webpage) and the lady who answered looked up distributors for the goop.

It can only be had from commercial distributors, not Home Depot type of places.

I phoned the place she told me of in Seattle and they UPS'ed it to me. Cost me around $6.00 for the tube and $14.00 for the freight and C.O.D. charges. They originally said they'd invoice me so I wouldn't have to pay the C.O.D. charges. Liars. I paid it because I was waiting for it.

After alot of time and testing I decided to put these kits together to make it easier for the Buick enthusiast to have a trouble free head gasket replacement.

When i put these kits together i purchased enough pieces to make complete kits. I would have to break up kits in order to sell one tube of silicone seperately.

Now let me get this straight, just because I won't go out and break up one of my kits, tell you exactly how to apply the sealant, the exact the modifications that are needed to the gaskets and the torque values and installation procedure to make these head gaskets work properly you are going to flood the market....


It seems that every time a guy goes out of his way to try and solve a problem and comes up with a solution that works this is
the kind of thanks he gets. If you have not noticed these type of guys are becoming few and far between.

If fact, here's some inside info. My boss(I'm using his account now(sorry dale)) already machined thirty 20 bolt girdles with superior quality machining. These kits will include all the same crap RJC offers + 3 steel caps & retail for $400. They are CNC profiled inside and out. No flame cutting. Double disc ground, etc..

Of course he doesn't plan to start selling them unless RJC steps on his toes.

Lets see what happens.

I never said he was a bad guy. I had his girdle, vc spacers and still have his power plate to go on when I get ready. I had heard about the steam holes needing enlarged. Aren't we all Buick V6 racers/owners/tuners here? Why all the secrets, just be open.

Figured I would share a bit of info I got on the 1200 today (freely). It takes 21 days for it to fully cure so plan on letting it sit for a month to get the proper cure.

I have a case coming!! Anyone needing it, I will be listing it on the for sale section. Will be about $8.00 a tube which is enough to do about 100 sets of gaskets.
