Ok...ramblin here but was curious as to where the limit is for alky.

What I mean is there are cars running 25 lbs of boost on alky.I cant get mine to run anything over 21lbs without it starting to show knock numbers. And Ive played with several chips..my problem is stock stuff..stock turbo/stock IC.

Does running high boost involve running a larger turbo and IC to bring down air temps so the alky can work? And is the problem with running a smaller turbo the heat it generates at higher boost levels the alky just cant compensate for?

Has anyone played with stock turbo/bigger IC,or larger turbo te44 and stock IC with alky?Im just trying to get direction with my setup.

So what reduction of air temps does the engine see in the combustion chamber with the alky?

Thanks guys...just trying to learn.

NOT an expert here, but the alky should lower the temps at least a couple hundred degrees. I say this b/c I feel it when the alky kicks in by means of a slight jolt(the boost dropping a tad for a second, then shooting up again). I didn't have all stock stuff when I got the alky, so that could be your problem. I consistently see 24 knock-less pounds of boost with my set up(and stock IC too- check sig.). 100% denatured and 93 Exxon Supreme. But I can run 18#s w/o the alky too.

I just installed my SMC kit last weekend and have been playing with it gradually. I have a TA49, 30lb red top injectors and a stretch intercooler on mine and I just started getting KR at 31lbs of boost. I am running 93 octane gas. I have the pump speed on max and the turn on point around 13-14lbs. I was getting no KR even at the top of 3rd gear at 19-20. Now at 20-21 I am getting approx 2 degrees and O2s of about 780. I still have the JL 93 street chip which has 20 degrees of timing in it. I was thinking of pulling sometiming with the Translator plus OR maybe richening up the WOT on it.
I also have the Loveridge Machine plenum spacer to install and supposedly that might help out with air distribution. Its just been too damn cold to do anything outside.

Hey Julio,

I know if you did the upgrade to the TE-44 and V4 you would have no problems with 23 psi or more. If you do run into some detonation we can always pull the timing out a little on your chip. I can only recommend with your stock stuff that if you want more boost and timing for the track, put in some 100 or 110 and run the alky. You'll definitley have no knock. We can make you a race only chip with more timing than we gave your last one, just for the track and high octane fuel. Let me know...

good luck,
-Bob

Bob..merry christmas :D

I havent had a chance to run the chip we burned the other week at the track yet.Ill try it out next thursday at BMP...I have to get with you to fix the cold start issue it has.Wont idle till it hits 130 degrees..we couldnt of forseen that with the car hot..Though I love the way it pulls with it after the engine is warm.

I for one know that a TE44 and 50's are in my future..just not yet $$$$ :( Xmas and two trannys have left me tapped out.

Not the TTA but the other commuter cars and both were OD's.

Im planning on installing an ATS in the up pipe to monitor temps and see a difference when I change out the turbo.I think the stock turbo is maxed out in the lower 20 range, and the heat it generates alky cant keep up.If outside temps were 40 degrees to optimize the IC...maybe I can get away with a pound or two higher of boost with a cool engine/compartment.

Hope the weather stays as is for a week.

If your not busy...there are like 8 GN's headed for BMP next thurday the 3rd.

Julio,

Sounds good, but remember to get the larger exhaust housing (.63) when you order your TE-44. The guys at Precision turbo suggested it strongly and I think they were right, seeing how well it's running for us. We will have to get together and fix your cold startup in the chip sometime!

Good luck Thursday,
-Bob

Razor,

Check out my build specs at my web site listed below.

I have had tremendous success with the SMC setup with my Ltd and I am going to a dual nozzle setup with the GN next season and doing away with race gas for good! I expect high 10s out of the GN based on the fact that I have seen 11.4s with an unopened 114k motor, with just a TA49, THDP, and big neck stock IC.

As for chips, I REALLY like Reds 106 chip right out of the box. 22* timing and lots of boost!

Any additional ?'s email me direct and I will help in anyway I can.

Hank

Hank: Your LTD is running strong. What fuel did you use when you ran the LTD times on your website? What does it run with 93 + alcohol? Do you have stock heads/converter. Thanks.

Look Quick,

I always run Sunoco 94. The heads and converter are stock. The only time the motor has been open was for valve springs and timing chain.
