Trans is on the way out. Any companies out there that sell them off the shelf built and ready to drop in? I have a 2000 SSEI parts car with a rebuilt trans. Any idea if it is a direct drop in?

It should be a T65E. It's the same gearbox as the 3800 powered Grand Prix, NA and supercharged. The T85E from the Northstar powered Cadillacs can also be made to fit, but it's a project.

Google or call your local parts store or start hitting up scrapyards.

The 4T65E is known to have the check ball holes in the spacer plate to wear out. Cheap fix
replace the PWM switch and PC solenoid while you are in there.
If you do swap it out, be sure the doner is a supercharged 3800 or the available 5.3 V8. They have larger diameter axle assemblies
My 01 GTP was totaled in front of my house by a douche bag hit and run. I miss that car.

I thought the supercharged cars came with the 4T65E-HD trans? I was under the impression the non-HD ones wouldn't survive long in the boosted cars. Anyone have any input or experience with using the one from my 2000 SSEI? I know there are at least 3 different gear ratios Pontiac used in them. Who is considered the "guru" these days with these cars? 3800performance is gone, so who's left?

You're digging into minutiae that's not easy to find accurate information on unless you have access to a lot of GM internal documentation.

All of the 4T64Es have the same gear ratios for the gears. The final drive might vary. The SSEI was supercharged and the car was heavier than the GTP, but the 4T85E was reserved for the Northstar and Aurora powered cars, so if you know how GM does things, that tells you they probably had the same gearbox.

Digging into cross-referencing, for the year 2000, Autozone's website crosses the Bonneville SSEi gearbox to the Buick Park Avenue. It doesn't cross to the Pontiac GTP. So maybe there was an "HD" version, but it would have gone on the heavier cars, not necessarily the boosted cars. Or there is no "HD" version and the heavier cars just had a deeper final drive.

You may want to try to find a community focused on the FWD platforms for better info.

Ok. Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to attempt to swap them and I'll give an update
