Have 1987 GN, Would like to redo the wheel where? Trying to build a nice Show/ Driver. Thanks guys. Mike D.

i'm replying to this now so i can find it later. the previous owner of my car had the wheel redone, its far nicer than any factory job i've ever seen. also insted of using the smooth type leather, they used slightly rougher leather that really feels good. i'll get the name of the place tomorrow when i have some time. i want to say it was around $200-$300

There is also a guy on E-Bay that does the re-wrap for our cars for $175. I don't know about the quality but I have been thinking about sending him an extra core I have so I will have a spare.

If you go on there just type in grand national and you will find his location.

Hope this helps!

:)

Got one for my GN from him recently!! Better than factory quality in my opinion. Could'nt be happier. :D

I got an ebay wheel too.. Guys name is Chuck Pelton. I was very impressed with the high quality of craftsmanship on the re-cover

I saw his wheels at Carlisle last year and they are very nice. He does a lot of Corvette wheels also. His number is 248.681.4336.

What is the matter with your existing wheel? If it is just minor surface cracks, then SEM makes a vinyl paint that works very well with leather. Usually, the top coating on the original leather cracks and it needs to be sanded off, cleaned, leather prepped and repainted. Deep gouges or tears in the leather requires recovering, but not surface cracks in the coating.

the good news: i found the receipt.

the bad news, its a generic receipt and doesn't say who did it or give any info at all. all i can tell you is it was $249.95.

when/if you send it off to be redone be sure to tell them to do 2 things. 1, clean up the aluminum bars, its a royal pain to get some deep spots out of there without hurting the leather. 2. make sure they know not to go too high on the bars. i've seen that done too many times, they leave 1/2" of metal showing and really looks like crap.

Ray's Custom Interiors does the original GN and TR interiors and he restores TR's steering wheels. He used to advertise on the TR websites. I had him do a wheel for me 3 years ago and he did a good job.
