Looking for a reputable shop to rebuild my TE63. Oil seal and bearing are worn. Caught it before the compressor contacted the housing. Any suggestions?

Dave

simi valley. Called exile turbo or something like that. Heard he was one of the best around by many people. He had something to do with innovative turbo before the closure.
here's the number. 805-432-5582

I called limit about my turbonetics turbo. They said 300 for tearing apart, cleaning, and putting back together. If wheels were bad, they could not get them, and it would be a waste of my 300 bucks...... F-that! that is really what they told me Lou.
still needs a rebuild...

If the wheels are still good Buy a kit & rebuild it yourself, Not a lot of moving parts how hard can it be.I have done it a few times myself. Can't be any worst than some of the crap that has floated around through the years. Your a talented guy go for it.

Thanks for the compliment Lou, i'm blushing:tongue: I would love to rebuild my turbo, it only has a little in and out, and a bad seal. I think I measured
.022" movement in and out combined. But i'm under the impression it has to be balanced. I dont want the thing to self destruct.

The wheels are already balanced, Just carefully mark all the pieces & reassemble back in the same order it should work if the wheels are still serviceable. Thats exactly what a rebuilder will do.Try & figure out what caused the problem to begin with.

I believe the shaft play was from low oil pressure. When I primed the last engine it was on, it popped the seal. Probably just plain and simply wore out? But the engine it will go on next, will not have oil pressure problems. The wheels look as new, never toutched anything, so I guess they should be ok? i'm going to take it apart tomorrow for the heck of it, and I WILL mark it. Thanks Lou. Where can I find the new service parts? turnetics is not far from me, but dont think they sell to public?

The last time I bought parts it was from Limit engineering. Take it apart first to see if it's salvageable.Remember the nut on the end of the shaft is probably a left thread.

I'm positive its salvageable. Barely has shaft play, but like I said, when I primed the last engine, it popped the oil seal. It only has like 5-6k miles on it, blades never touched the housings. I'm sure its fine, just don't need it right now. Thanks for the advice though Lou, I appreciate it. How much do I owe you??:D
Hi Gary.

Hi Jeremy & Lou. How's life treating you guys?
No new toy in my driveway so I'm sort of feeling sorry for myself. But I am extremely thankful for what I do have. The vette gets me back and forth to work and the brick seems to be running rather chipper. Things could be a lot worse, and I have a feeling that the economy is going to get a lot worse.

Gary just trade your vette in for another with zero % financing. If not now when. But only you know what your comfort level is with what 's affordable. nothing you can do about the economy that has to work itself out.Maybe things needed to slow down a bit so we can enjoy what we have. Come over here for lunch some afternoon on me & lets get caught up on all the latest Buick scandals.

Lou: That sounds like a great offer, so I will hold you to it. Maybe some Sat that you are working we can get together for lunch. Sounds like a heck of an offer. As far as a newer vette goes, Lou, I have almost convinced myself that I could be almost as happy with another new (to me) extremely low mileage turbo brick to play with. I am not as afraid of buying a C6Z06 as I am what the Republik of Kali just did to the renewal registration fees of a new or almost new vette. Have you seen the post / thread over of corvetteforum regarding the same subject. If you haven't, you should. Governor Arnie is charging about 1K for a renewal fee on a year or 2 year old vette Z06. I think that did it for me. I'm thinking about finding a nice Kool older V-dub. Or something similar. I am just not going to write out a check for 5K to the state of kali for first year registration, plates, & sales tax knowing that there is no way in hell that I can get any of it back. I am about ready to move to AZ & rent a shoebox with a 2 car garage attached. I am following this every year smog requirement bill very closely too. If you read or hear of some old geezer going ballistic at the local "test Only" smog station or the local DMV, it'll be me.

Of course were friends, I seen your point at the time & appreciated the way you handled the situation & this is the reason I'm willing to help you now. Enough said & stupid of me to bring it up. But couldn't resist a jab.
