Could the line lock hold 5 psi at the line for launching? Could that hurt anything? I think I read that the trans brake is not good for the transmission, and I'm not looking for a 15 psi launch.

I wouldn't advise trying to use the line lock for holding on the line. It's for the water box burnouts.

Like Scot said, foot brake will hole much more because you've got 4 brakes holding.

I just bought the Summit brand (Looks identical to the Hurst one) I was gonna get the Biondo one, but i decided i wanted it look like a nice piece of hardware, and they were the same price too!

I dont see the need for a indication light, and i was gonna use my own switch, so i didnt buy any install kit. Also, i havent got mine yet, but i will tell you guys how it turns out when it's done. (Comes thursday, will install saturday)

I just ordered the same one from Summit, for same reason-looks like the Hurst unit only cheaper. I hope we made the right decision! I placed a bid on a Hurst unit on ebay of $75 but was outbid, so I figured why spend more if the Summit one is the same.

Well, i read somewhere on this board that the summit and hurst are the same really. Something along the lines as Mr. Gasket owns Hurst, and summit owns mr gasket.

Something like that. I hope i made the right decision also, if not, i'll just get the Biondo unit. I know those work fine, i know a few people using them.

A guy just put a Jegs brand line lock on his 87 GN, and it looks good and works.

Mine will deliver thursday, and i'll install saturday or sunday of next week.

Hey Scot (or anybody else out there)-

I received my line lock and I still have a question. After doing some searching, is it true that if I install it at the master cylinder, then my brake light will always stay on with my foot off of the brake? But if I install it after the proportioning valve, the light will work correctly? Thanks!

Rick i'm not sure what they are talking about!, The lights will stay on when your pressing the brake peddle in cause it's making the brake switch. but after you press the line-loc buttton and release the brake's the brake lights MAY go off! I can't see anything by hooking it up at the master cylinder that can cause the brake lights to stay on! Mine works fine! along with MANY OTHERS. If you hook it up like mine it will work fine!!

BTW: As long as the brake lights work fine normally after it's hooked up, Who cares if they work while using the line-loc? it will only be used for several seconds at a time anyway!...

I like the Biondo line locks. They are cheaper and work just as good. Their simple in and out ports and make for some super clean install. The hurst has all those extra ports that could leak. The Hurst is perfect fro mustang applications due to their MC set up.

The reason the brake light will stay on when installed near the master cylinder (like mine) is because there's a system imbalance caused when the line lock is activated. The light will only stay on until your next brake apply (after the line lock is deactivated). In other words when I hit the brake to keep from rolling across the line after the burnout, the light goes out.

There are those that claim this is somehow causing damage to the system. However, I've had my line lock in place for well over 12 years and I don't believe my system has suffered any ill effects.

Ditto what TurboDave says...but I've had mine installed this way for only 10 years with no damage!!

Ok, thanks everyone. At least I know when I install it, the light should stay on when in use and that is normal. I haven't read the instructions yet so I don't know if that is addressed or not.

GNRick,

I recieved mine yestarday. Looks like a good piece of hardware. Anyways, i'll be putting mine in over the weekend. Also with replacing the front brakes since they've been squeaking when applying the brakes.

Well, hopefully when you install yours, it goes smooth. I'll be installing mine by the MC also.

What some people do is push down on the brake pedal and set the line lock then let up on the pedal and press it down and hold it. This will create extra pressure in the system and should hold your 5 PSI.

This is what I did when I had vacuum brakes and I have friends who do this with PowerMasters. Now that I have the Hydro Boost installed it is a non issue.

Good luck!

I'll try it. Thanks!

I installed my line lock this evening. I would like to thank Scot for the excellent pics. I couldn't have done it without him. I didn't bleed the brakes, and I can't hold boost. I know the line lock works because it prevents the car from rolling at idle. I just wanted to make sure that it is imperative to bleed the brakes, or could I have a problem?

If you still have the cast proportioning valve a GM dealership will put the brass one on for free...it has a lifetime recall. I had mine replaced about two years ago. Call a dealer and check it out

Thanks Rick! Yes it's VERY important to bleed the brakes! I'm glade everything worked out okay for you. Scot w.

Yes it is imperative to bleed after a line lock install. There will be air in the lines. It is also a great time to go ahead and bleed all of the old fluid out. I like to make sure my fluid is clean in the master cylinder as well as the fluid coming out of the bleeders.

The issue of installing the line lock at the MC or after the proportioning valve is interesting. However, NHRA rules require the line lock to be installed after the proportioning valve. Has anyone had a problem at an NHRA track for having it installed at the Matser Cylinder?
Thanks for the recall information about the proportioning valve - I will be checking into that.
***Scot W, can you go over what fittings you had to use and what sizes? Also, where did you get the brake line from the MC to the line lock and what size is it?
