One sure fire way to get more responses is when someone gives a wrong answer. Then all the "correctors" come out of the woodwork. So let me help you out...
Getting oil to drain back to the block unimpeded by bends or smaller than stock fittings is very important. I've read that PTE recommends a minimum drain size of -10AN (5/8"). Some use -8AN (1/2") without problems. I would not use anything smaller than this.
OK, let me put it this way. I want to use the 10 an flange. They have two listed. One says "Designed to fit GT15-GT35 Series ball bearing turbos" the other says "Designed to fit T04, T3, T3/T4, and GT40-GT55 turbos".
The second one. I personally would not install any return line with less open cross sectional area than a stock line and I wouldn't compromise the downward slope any more than the stock line provides. A stock line flows more than just about everything I've seen cobbled onto these cars. The stock design has the most continuous downward slope of anything I've seen that returns to the stock fitting in the front of the block. The line was engineered to be easy to install on an assembly line and still provide adequate drain back.
