I talked to about three different turbo companies, and all said
that their turbos went by different numbers and that the 45a wasnt their design. Trying to find out who designed and named
it? Thanks!

Another vote for Craig at Limit eng. They had the TE-45 probably 3-4 years ago. Not sure about the "a" but I know they had the TE-45 and no body else at the time did.

Can someone explain to me how the 45 is measured? Since the 45 is bigger than the 51, 52,54,60,61,62,and 63? The latter are all measured by compresser wheel size arent they?

And whats the difference between the 45 and 45a?

The Te45a is John Craigs designation (Limit eng) I believe the the 45 had a 64mm wheel and the A i am pretty sure has a 66mm wheel. When i purchased mine last year i was told that they didnt make the 45 any more, just the 45a.

I am sure one of the guru's will confirm,

How much faster can the 45a actually go over the entire 50 series
and a portion of the 60 series turbos. Also how far behind is the TE44? I'm sure it depends on the combo but how about the potentials of the different turbos?

The difference between a 45a and a TE44/PTE51/TA49 are night and day. The 45a will need a minimum of a 3500 stall converter and work properly will need ported heads and a cam, lots of injector and a very good intercooler. Where the other three will work with a stock or slighly modifed D5 and lots of the stock stuff.

The first three turbos are for "mid 11 combinations" where a 45a is for "high 10 combinations". Bolting on a 45a to a typical TE44 "mid 11 combination" will give you a "high 11 combination".

the 45A has a 66mm compressor wheel and big shaft...it is rated in the vicinity of 700 hp.....close would be PT-66 and TE63E

suffice it to say it will max out a stock block

you wouldn't want to consider it unless you have improved heads & cam and big stall converter

how far behind is a te-44? think those are rated at 585 hp....sooo, about a second in the 1/4 mile:)

I am thinking a 62 would be a good upgrade from the 44, 49, 51.

That's the direction I'm looking at with the stock cam.

Ported heads someday.

With a 3K stall converter too.
