well I just got my car back from the motor build and my t70 seized up. Im thinking of getting a slightly smaller turbo for more streetability since most of my driving will be on the streets but im not against staying with a t70. I am running a modded ecm with Turbo Tweak chip on pump gas but im going to get alky soon. Also im pretty tight on cash since the motor build so im looking to spend around 1000 and dont mind if the turbo is slightly used. here is a quick overview of my set up...

-109 block bored .30 over with forged internals including steel crank
- Built trans w/3800 stall non-lockup
- Ported stock heads
- 55lb injectors (going to upgrade to 72s)
- 70mm Throttle Body and Plenum
- Fuel Pressure Regulator
- GN1 Performance Front Mount intercooler w/3in Piping
- 3in Downpipe with external tial wastegate
- Headers from Hye Tech Performance
- Single Shot 3" Exhaust
- Translator Plus with LS1 MAF sensor
- Underdrive Pulleys
- 212/212 Isky Cam(not 100% sure on this, came with car, i need to double check)
- double roller timing chain
- Walbro pump with Full Throttle Hot Wire Kit

any help would be greatly appreciated

Yup the alky injection will be needed for sure, even with the 72's. The Walbro is only good for about 400lb/hr too, so it will also max out when the 72's are a little over 90% duty. Go ahead and upgrade right away to the dual nozzle setup when you order the alky.

If I had that much converter I would be considering something with a 70 or a 72mm inlet compressor wheel, with dual ball bearings just because it's cool.

More importantly... any idea why the old T70 failed? Lack of lube or something? Foreign object damage?

ported stock heads from GN1 performance. ported intake manifold.

Im in the process of taking off the old turbo right now, I just cant find the hex to take off the downpipe bolts. Right now im pretty strict on cash so I couldnt go dual ball bearing even though id love to. I found a p trim t70 with 3k miles on it for 675 shipped that I was thinking of picking up. Archie at GN1 performance(he built the motor) wanted me to go with a turbonetics 62mm which I was thinking is pretty small for the set up I have.

Should I be looking into a dual fuel pump set up or external pump or will the walbro be sufficient? I just had it installed when the motor was put in, its not a 340, its the newer model.

thanks again guys for helping me out.

also.... this car is going to be mainly for street driving to meet ups and sometimes to work to show off haha. Probably some aggressive street driving will be happening to unsuspecting evos and porsches

Well I'm running a 67mm compressor now and I would like to have a double pumper in the tank to back up the meth injection. But it's not absolutely required... just a good idea. Right now with the methanol spraying I can run down to low 11 AFR's but can't really get to 11.0. My fuel pump just won't do it. With 70mm at high boost you could be in the same situation, but even more so.

FYI.. I'm running 100 octane too... if I were running 93 then the richer AFR would probably really be needed.

That P-trim sounds like a pretty good deal for 675 if it's in nice shape.

ya im going to start running just 100 octane or higher since I barely use the car anyways. Just hard to find around me though which sucks.

I have no fuel problems at all with a single pumper.I am running a single 340 at 45 psi with ALKY and have run AFRs in the mid 8s with 72 lb injectors with a Turbonetics CPT 66 BB turbo at 26 lbs of boost. At 10.70 AFR with a decent dose of ALKY, my injector duty cycle is under 50% at WOT. Plenty of room left with a single pumper. I would call Julio and ask his opinion about the dual nozzle ALKY before ordering( or at least send him an PM ). In my opinion the dual nozzle on a street car is overkill.
Just my .02

im just curious with other peoples opinions, a couple people locallys have said I should go with a turbonetics 62mm, does anyone actually agree with this? I think the t70 is a good turbo to go with. Would anyone with my set up go with a 62mm? if so why?

Id go with a 66GTQ minimum if you truly have a 3800 stall.

ya thats what I was thinking too, minimum t66. The previous owner is the one who installed the torque converter, I dont get why he would lie about it but he seems to be turning into a shady character after a few messages weve sent back and forth so im not 100% sure. Is there anyway to tell without removing the converter.

The advertised stalls will vary by manufacturer. I usually say the stall speed at zero boost/vacuum and whether or not the trans-brake was used to obtain the number. Simply apply the t-brake and go against the converter till the needle just moves off zero or if your gauge reads both then take the rpm at zero. The rpm will be higher on the trans brake than the foot brake.

I dont have a trans brake :( I'll see what it does on the footbrake and report back if that will show anything but right now no turbo on the motor so its going to be a few days

how much do you guys think the core for the turbo is worth? Could I get it rebuilt into a ball bearing turbo if it wasnt before? im still alittle new to the turbo world but catching on :)
