I did not try 1,2,3 but when I was in the drive through at Mcdonalds I heard a rather loud whining noise that reminded me of a power steering pump type noise. When I put the trans in Nuetral or park it went away.
Is this normal ? The trans is shifting ok but felt mushy and at wot I noticed the RPMS only drop back to about 4500 from 5200 on shifts and its not a jerk on the shift just kinda slides into second... sort of soft like.
Stock trans and converter with about 64k miles.

Normal driving it seems pretty much ok ...

Car seems to be slow and I am wondering if the transmission is slipping ..see other post...

I went out and cranked the car up and cold the level is at the line at the bottom of the cross hatch " add line " I would guess after it was hot it would be in the cross hatch area. I smelled of it and it stinks really bad burnt smell. :frown::(

I shifted it through the gears and everything felt fine setting in the shop I heard the whining again too... I stalled it up on the brake till the tires broke loose it indicated about 2200 on the dash tach.

Is it toast ?

Wondering about buying CK's book and taking a swing at rebuilding it myself with the recomended billet parts etc... I wonder how much I could save over shipping it out...? I looked over on gnt-type.com and there is a step by step rebuild thread and it looks involved but do-able... just scary having never torn into one before.
