I believe I have a transmission issue. I’ve been working on a nagging problem for a long time and now I’m wondering if it’s in the transmission. I cannot get the car to rev over 47/4900 rpms. Today I tried to manually shift the car in attempts to get more rpms and the car will shift to second gear even though I have it manually still in first. If I let off on the throttle (car still in manual first but shifted in second) it then jumps into neutral for a second then back to first. This is fresh built transmission. Does this sound like an involved fix? Is there anyone remotely close to Iowa that I can drive the car to?

there is someone that can fix it.you.install a pressure gage and post results.dont know how ?call me at 718 784 4256.suspect tv valve ,tv limit valve,or tv boost valve problem or cable misadjustment.

I thank you for help. I don’t own or even know what these gages look like. I’m sure I can get a local shop to measure the pressure for me. Are you wanting the pressure at idle or under load when the car is falling?
Thanks again.
Chad

If it's a fresh trans you should probably get in touch with whoever built it. They would know what was done to it and could help track down the problem.

start with easy stuff-make sure tv cable is adjusted right-where's pella, i'm in sioux city.

is it a GN trans?
from what i've read, any other 200-4r trans will shift at too low rpm no matter what you do to it.

The people that built the trans are in MI. I literally picked up the car on a flat bed trailer and moved to Iowa the next day. The trans builder spent many days working on the car to get it to shift hard at WOT. After no success he concluded it was the motor and not the trans. We’ve owned the car since new and this is the only person who’s ever been in the trans it should contain all the correct parts. I too read that it should not shift and that’s what scares me.

Pella is in south central Iowa, I would guess about 2-2 ½ hours from Sioux City.

Off the subject but I live in Davenport. I just wanted to say hi and nice to meet another fellow Iowan with a GN! If you get a chance, check out the midwest section for our meet on July 28th. -------Jeremy
