I havent been to one in a few years and some of my teeth are starting to bother me. I'm a big chicken shi* when it comes to doctors and dentists.:(

I have found that Dentist seem to run you in like cattle. They never give you any education or anything to think about. My family doctor askes questions, educates you, and spends time to get to know you. Am I the only one?

Brother you have to take care of them choppers they with you till ya die.....anyhow I use to be then started taking my son to break him in and then just became routine...

Alan

Battling a toothache myself all weekend and even took today off because of it. Had a lot of pain killers from my back problem and was popping them like candy last nite and it didn't help.

Called to see if my new dentist could see me today and the SOB is on vacation so I had to go to a guy who covers for him. Man, what a throwback to the 60's. Dressed like a slob, old equpment, didn't wear a mask.

Looks like I need a root canal on the same tooth that has about a year old crown. Then he tells me I have decay on the molar that was next to a wisdom tooth I had out in October. Never ends. Spent thousands over the year on dental work. What I fear most about the dentist is paying them after the yearly amount that is covered by my dental plan is used up.:D

id get your butt to the dentist pronto,if not youll probablly need a few root canals in a year or 2.think you cant sleep now,and it will cost yopu a small fortune.oh yea, did i mention the serious pain part. best bet is to go every 6 months for a cleaning and a checkup. beleive me, i found out the hard way too.:( :D

i hate my dentist! i have been going to him since i was 7 so far i have hit him twice and broken a dental hygenists hand... they love me there....

PS i hate novicane

FWIW & IMHO:
Take it from somebody who's an expert on this subject. People that do not regularly see a dentist will lose almost all of their teeth by around age 60. If you choose to go this route, your teeth will be so bad that no dentist will be able to build even a good set of false teeth without a lot of problems and money that could have been avoided. They can and will wear themselves down below the gum line and have to be cut out to be removed before dentures can be done. Don't even bother asking me how I know. You are really going to regret this later on in life. Keep going to dentists until you find one that you like and trust. Then get your teeth work done before it is too late.

Think I am going shopping for a new one. This new guy I have is now out sick and his office is no help to me. Referred me to a specialist that is not in my network so I have to pay them everything up front for a root canal.

Do most of you guys have just one dentist or do you go to an office that has a group of dentists so someone is always available?? Left my old dentist mostly because of the distance to them but there was always somebody there if a dentist was out sick or on vacation. Might end up going back!

See if you can get some referrals from friends, co-workers etc. I would say find a sharp "newer" dentist that is skilled in the newer techniques and procedures. A newer dentist most likely has better customer service skills as they are trying to build/grow a business.

Be a consumer. If you don't like em no need to patronize them.

Good luck!

I hate them.. They treat you like a factory.

I make mine whine when I question him or ask for a payment plan.

Next I am going run by him the multi kid discount since 6 of go there :D

I guess I am an oddball (nothing new there), but I have had nothing but good luck with all my dental experiences. I have been to maybe 3 different dentist with my current being a family friend, and I have not had any problems with anything they have done. I had a wisdom tooth removed and felt better rigth afterwards than I did before the surgery. I had a crown done and it was a no biggie.

Thanks, Mark

I think that you are much better off going to a real dentist that has maybe one partner in his or her office as opposed to the dentil mills which are a kin to Cost Cutters for a hair cut.
Ask friends and co-workers for reccomendations. My dentist is very high-tech - everything in his office is computerized from the x-rays to the novacain machine. Instead of crowns he uses Cerac - a porcelin piece that is computer designed and milled in the office. My wife had a filling yesterday and with the new technology she didn't even need novacain.

My denist is cool as heck...been going to him for almost 30 years now and he doesn't look a year past 40....he must be doing something right :)

My wife on the other hand.....she's has jumped up out of the chair screaming and ran out of the office screaming with the Doctor chasing behind her yelling at her to stop and come back...she still had the napkin tied around her neck screaming out in the parking lot....it was hilarious!! :D

I can relate to that!

Had 2 root canals last week and my mouth has not recovered yet.

May take 6 months to recover from his bill.:(

remind you of any thing :)

The dentist is a necessary evil. Mine is a real cool guy that I got recommended to by one of my co-workers at a previous job. He has all the latest stuff and is very professional about everything. That said I still have to endure the poking and prodding at the six month checkups like everybody else, but since I take care of my teeth I have few problems.

What I can't understand is you guys that have problems with your teeth, how come you don't take care of them? What is the problem with brushing and flossing your teeth? I do it once a day and have very few problems. I floss, then I brush with one of those Sonicare brushes, then I do a followup with a normal brush. Takes about ten minutes and I do it before bed.

Dentures are no fun from what I hear so I'd avoid that scenario at all costs.

The funny thing is the amount of so called tough guys that won't go to the dentist. What a bunch of wimps. My fiancee doesn't even get novacaine when she gets her teeth drilled.
