All i like to see with flow numbers is that my head is properly balanced in all cylinders. Aside from that agree 110% with BigChinooks and Cal. Proof is in the pudding. Go to the track and drive it like you stole it and the et & mph tells the tale.

Just curious, what was the ET?

That was the problem, not enough stall for my big turbo,so the car would come on strong after 100 feet or so.
11.1@130+1.95 60 foot.
Same motor went 10.84@124 with a much smaller turbo 3 years ago,1.63 60 foot.
Same motor,completely untouched,went 11.1s@119mph 5 years ago completly bone stock(just bolt ons)1.54 60 foots.
-that was completly unopened motor at the time.

I have since changed torque converters added a trans brake and went to a smaller exhaust housing.
But good old mother nature will not let me try it out untill may of next year.

So your saying this was with "stock" heads? Pretty impressive. Imagine if your had "good head"LOL
But really...whose heads you using? I'd (and I think an awful lot of other guys according to all the hits). like to know whose got bragging rights. Lots disparity here...

I'm never gonna finish this car!:(

Yes the 11.1s were with untouched heads and alot of boost and very good tuning.
Only thing i changed were the valve springs!
The heads i use now originally came from champion and have been cleaned up in a couple areas.

Mike.

I can tell you that one of our guys was stuck at 11.1 for quite awhile, then swapped out the unported heads for a pair of Champion irons and first pass was 10.61 at the Oklahoma Buick vs Ford shootout with no other changes whatsoever. Good enough for me.

Nothing wrong with that ET considering the 60' time. You are definately making good power. IMO there would be a big a difference in power if you were running 12.1 @ 130 rather than the 11.1. That's why I wanted to know what the ET was.

FWIW, I have the same ET @ only 120mph, so you were making alot more HP on the same run, just no hook.

My advice is you call them or visit there sites http://www.arizonagn.com/ and http://www.championracingheads.com also check out the front page of this site we have a list of very good , honest and reputable vendors to select from , and I assure you if they cant help you ...they will help you find someone who can , either way you go you will be very happy with your purchase from Nick or Tom & Bill. FWIW: Flow numbers are not important in this thread because the member " V6DVette" is more interested in the "affordability to the masses." (at this time) then flow numers , so lets not start the "I think my vendor is better then yours" or "I know flow numbers better then you" war , (Intercooler).
Good luck in your purchase V6DVette again we have great vendors here.

WHAT A CROCK!

He is looking for best and affordable. That rules out all of Champions. I never said I had a vendor did I?.....NO! I didn't even say I did them myself. I did state the fact of what Champion irons flow compared to hand ported. I see nothing wrong with that.... good info for someone IMO. I think turbotwister gave some flow numbers, vendor and price too but you don't say nothing about that and I didn't either so I wasn't trying to out-do what turbotwister or anyone else had said.

I also never said " I know flow numbers better than anybody". Just stating the facts that are out there for someone to make a comparison and choice.

V6DVette,

Back-cut your valves and have the port work done and you will get about 90% of what is their for the taking and save yourself some pretty good coin. You can e-mail me if you want more info on some of this stuff since Jesse has turned this into one that is "circling the bowl".

I'm affordable and perform better than most for the price!!!:D Flow #'s are very important as well as track times. And i have had many heads flow over 200cfm easily!!! I can gaurentee you Intercooler's flow #'S are not exagerated. Quit beating up on the guy he didn't do a thing wrong here. Stated some facts then was challenged on it. V6DVette you might just find some good speed shop local to clean them up and back cut the valves and they will pick up alot, if not i can help or one of many of the others from the board. Thanks,Frank

Good God you guys are really getting anal about the posts here. I guess flow numbers aren't important so the cheapest for the masses would be to go to the "Parts For Sale" and buy a cheap untouched set of used heads. I wish someone had a copy of the "crust" thread because it number one was funny and number two so true! I think I rate at "some crust" since I'm in the 11 second bracket but would never reach upper crust status since I'm not a vendor. :D

I didn't want this to turn into a pissin contest. I just thought there was quite a difference in the price of heads and all I ever hear about is Champion and very little on anyone else's work.
As far as a "real" speed shop goes...I'll hold my tongue. :)

I'm never gonna finish this car!:(

I'll be picking up my set of VPE's tomorrow.
This will be the first set out there, and will be complimented by a bigger turbo/IC/injectors since I doubt the current TA49 will feed them.
Results to come soon...

Jesse....you sure are Super.

The question was best irons that are affordable to the masses. Flow numbers are relevant to everyone except you I guess so how about you do the poster a favor and save your personal vendetta. It's annoying to the masses.

Cal, I don't have any flow numbers an the TA Heads as they have only just recently become available. Nick might have some info on these or maybe TA. They use Chevy valves and can run a 2.02" intake. Not sure on valve shrouding or if they have re-positioned valves but my engine is a 4.00" bore size that should have less shrouding, no propaganda from me just a new well engineered product that Dr. Duttweiler helped design with improved port designs. Time will tell all as next year these heads will be running at the tracks. I'm no expert on anything but have been following all the new TA Products and their developments. Gene

I have spoken to TA about their heads on several occasions (I have a block on order). The flow numbers I have been given aren't any better than I have seen from Champions with all things being equal. FWIW: You can buy the Champions with bigger valves and can even get them with things moved around a litttle. In fact, Champion works so closely with Cometics that they even had Cometics make a new intake gasket for the raised port heads.
