So I remove my rear tire because it was flat expecting to find a screw......instead I found an entire body shim....WTF?!!!!

Since its not a hole but more of a slit right in the center of the tire I thought maybe a good patch would work. However I have never patched

a DR and would be curious to know if it can work knowing that the tire will see lots of stress under launching.

Has anybody done this first hand?

I had a vulcanized patch installed on a Nitto a long time ago.

Worked fine on the street, never raced with it and probably wouldn't.

That particular injury looks a lot bigger than the nail hole I had however.

Please dont. If u where in mustang I would tell u different lol

If I were going to try anything I'd use a plug patch.

The thing you have to worry about is if the debris compromised a radial belt. The last thing you want to fail is a belt at 100+

Replace both tires. Not worth having a nightmare over $400-$500 of tires. Think of when that tire is hot from a burnout then you are running 120 plus maybe.

A round hole could be fixed with a plug patch. I have done it many times on a drag radial and even slicks. A slit like you have?? No way in hell. New tire time.

I agree. A slit may have cut too many cords which may cause the tread to separate at the worst time.

i dont know 250 tire vs 1000s of $ plus to repair a vettes 1/4. id go w the 250.. even if you bought 2 @500 still worth it.

a plug patch is NOT supported by any tire manufacturer! Only a vulcanized patch.
Also, if the hole is GREATER than 1/2" it needs to be replaced!

I am not sure if I would want to patch a DR.
