i like it, it needs a little more agressiveness to it, not gaudy plastic cladding but a little more. There is a few pics of a GTO with inset front grill, more aggressive front bumper and dual tip outlets on both sides of the rear bumper. It looks awesome

I sat in a blue automatic just today!

I caught a glimpse of it in the showroom as I was driving by and hung a u-ey to check it out.

I like the shape of the car and the interior is bigger than it looks. I popped the trunk and saw a huge bulkhead where the fuel cell is. It really compromises luggage space. Car stickered at $34K. If it was mid- / hi- twenties, it would be a bargain.

I didn't think anyone liked it? IMO other than the engine the car is a BIG DUD:o

 Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Everyone has been bitching that GM needs to build a v8, rear-drive performance car to replace the Camaro but when they do, everybody wants to shoot it down. While I agree it doesn't look like a '64 Goat, this isn't 1964! Honestly I don't think they were very good looking. As it has been said 10,000 times, this car is a filler until the Camaro(and hopefully) Firebird can be designed and built. Sure, it's no Cobra Mustang but it's a heck of a lot better than the poor excuse of a Malibu or Impala that we have now.

I like it. I would like it a little more if they gave it some more styling though. They brought over Holden's most sedate looking Monaro to become the GTO. Holden has a much more aggressively styled "GTO" in their lineup. I guess the folks over at Pontiac got sick of hearing everyone piss and moan about all the body cladding they have used in the recent past...

gn1220 when was the last time you saw a 5.7 liter rice burner? Rice? I think not. Sure some will consider it ugly, but then a lot of people don't understand my love for the GN!!

I saw a prototype about a year ago. It looked weird from the side because it appeared that it had been lowered about 2 inches. It reminded me of a ricer. The tires didn't line up with the wheel wells. I wasn't impressed. I saw one at a Dealer a couple of days ago and it looks awesome. Totally different from the first one. I want it. IMHO of course.

I've gotten over the styling blandness and name thing etc. I like it now. I think that if I drove it I'd love it.

They've got some kind of a ......problem.....I guess you'd say it is with the ast end. I did a comparison to some aftermarket stuff, and as near as I can tell, they need to lose that anemic spoiler, and it needs dual exhaust tips - on opposite sides.

But I think the lower lip of the whole rear needs some flaring or something. It starts to taper in at about mid level, and just looks weak.

This looks better:

On the upside, it's awfully pretty inside - I could live in there - and the front and badging is attractive. Addition of hood scoops in '05 will make that even nicer.

In short, a few engine tweaks to put on the finishing touches to the drivetrain, along with a new rear bumper cover could make this a really nice car.

I've thought about buying one, and the wife likes it, so it's not out of the question.

It would just be a toy, and one more thing to store in the winter. Like I need another 1,000 miles a year toy?

I saw a few on a couple of dealer lots for the first time last weekend. My impressions are that the styling is indeed very bland (as folks have pointed up, although I though it would be better in person), and it looks a little longer than in the photos, which is a compliment.

The interior is very grainy (is that a word?), the silver appointments on the steering wheel, shifter and perhaps elsewhere (I can't recall) are cheesy.

I don't care for the dual exhaust exiting one side, and the car looks a little "thrown together" - I guess I expected more. Oh, and I like WHITE cars - but you can't get a white GTO.

At this point I guess I'll wait until the 2005 model year when some of this stuff presumably gets addressed, and maybe the thing gets a 400 HP LS2. I hope it doesn't get hood scoops, or that there's a scoopless option.

If the 2005 is sweet maybe I'll move on from the GN. I really like the GN but 17 years is 17 years, and I badly want a V8 and a stick. Am I losing it? Realistically, my wife would kill me if I ever sold the GN, so I'd probably have the GN and the T and the truck and the trailer and the GTO. Too damn much baggege!!!

:)

I think they used the same strategy with the current GTO as they did with the past one. Take an available body style and throw a powerful engine in it. The original GTO I think at the time probably had the same comments thrown at it as this one does. From my POV it's a little too bland in styling, but I like the power and from what I've read the fit and finish is much nicer than most Pontiacs, though that is up for debate.

At least it has decent performance and didn't end up like the Mercury Marauder, a cool looking slug. I'll trade some cool looks and a dual exhaust for better performance any day.

Exterior styling is too bland.
Interior is awesome
Performance is good
Price tag sucks.

I would never pay 34K for a Cavilier(sp)/Sunbird..
What a heap....

well.. i have a friend that is a editor for a magazine, and was there when Pontiac released the GTO. he asked why no ramair as that is a GTO staple ( even in the mid 70s ) the response was that they didn't want to do anything nonfunctional and "too" retro, the GM suit then asked for an opinion on the wing, were he said thumbs down, this is to be a muscle car, not a ricer. our thoughts were as follows: nonfunctional? had he never heard of the ramair TAs from the late 90s/00 years? and "too retro" a rear wheel drive "muscle car" with 300hp isn't retro? and just how functional is that rear wing anyway??

send it back to Austria

UGLY UGLY UGLY!!!!

That car is ugly. No offense to those who like it. It may have some power but it does not have the classic looks to go with it. I have always been a gm fan but gm has taken a turn for the worst in styling. Hundai is making better looking cars then gm nowadays. Ever since gm went to front wheel drive in the 80's and stopped production of the g body cars and now the the camaro and trans am being discontinued we are left with the mustang. I say gm needs to bring back the turbo v-6 and fine tune it for todays standards and give us a true retro muscle car again that has the classic styling and power packed muscle to go with it. Bring back the G body cars for a limited time so we all can own a new one again!!!!!
