Who Makes a decent Exhaust?

Bought my car five years ago with rusted out Hooker cat back exh. with a bad drone. Put Cotton's SS duels on three years ago. Still look like new, and no drone. Wish I'd done it sooner.

Same here. I got a hooker exhaust and it sounds like crap and drones real bad. I've been thinking about putting Cottons exhaust on-you got a sound clip?

Who makes the quietest exhaust system with NO drone. I had Mike Lichts duals and it droned...hated it. Have a single 3" and it drones HATE it. Can't even hear the dang radio. I'm not concerned about flow as I have a cutout for that. Who makes the quietest exhaust for our cars with no drone?

Probably depends on which mufflers it has. Mine is REALLY quiet. I'll have to crawl under and see which ones they are.

you know it would be great if someone could create a thread, section or sticky that different cars with different exahusts on them with sound files and pics maybe. I saw something like this on a dakota website I used to hang around on and it was nice. you could find the truck with the system you were interested in and listen to it to see which one you liked best. I think that would be good if someone did that here. you know try to get all the systems possible on different cars with different tunes.

I have the 2 1/2" Hooker c/b with Aerochambers and never noticed any drone. EVILGN had the ATR 3" SS Single Shot with a Pitbull muffler and it would give you a headache due to the drone after 15 mins of driving. It sounded gnarly as heck at idle, but the drone was almost unbearable.

Drone?

IMHO the dreaded drone is'nt just the result of a bad, or cheep exhaust. It's a resonance in the exhaust that is a product of the exhaust COMBO. What we should be doing is sharing this info. eg: THDP w/cut out, no cat, Cotton's duels. This drone is at its worst when its right at cruz rpm. This can change up or down with diffirent stall converters, tire sizes, and gears. When I first put this combo on my car, it had a bit of a drone. But, when I put my cat on for smog, the drone was much less. I then realized that the cut out on my THDP was the cause. I took it to my friends welding shop, and we just loped it off and welded on a plate. Drone gone:smile: .

A drone "may" also be affected by headers and turbo size. I'm not sure.

SO, any other "drone-free" combos out there???

Ok here are my "combos"
1987 WE4-Stock downpipe, headers, and crossover with Kenne Bell's SS 2.5" duals. Terrible drone at 35-40.
1987 Ttype-stock headers, crossover, with 3" THDP. Mike Lichts dual 2 3/4" exhaust. Droned like heck from 18-2000 RPM's.
1987 GN-stock headers, crossover, with 3" THDP. It is what I am told as Mike Lichts 3" single shot. Drone is so bad you cant hear the radio.
1989 TTA-stock headers (not much of a choice), crossover, and DP. ATR single 3" shot with pit bull crossthrough muffler. It is loud but NO drone at all. Very nice exhaust.

This post is not meant to complain at Kenne Bell, Mike Licht, Terry Houston, or ATR. It is a simple post explaining my findings. Will I buy an exhaust from Licht again? Not with those mufflers but Mike is a standup guy and I have never had anything but good relations with him. Hope this helps someone...

Turbo T......stock headers, THDP, test pipe w/dump, Hooker 2 1/2" catback with Aerochamber mufflers. Car sounds pretty close to stock...very mellow sounding with a nice rumble.

EVILGN had stock headers, MPE d/p, test pipe w/dump, ATR SS Single Shot with SS Pitbull muffler

Problem is, you have to be there to get the true feeling of the exhaust in the car while driving. All the exhaust systems sound good at idle...

I don't mind the drone, honestly I don't. You just need to buy a nice sound system, LOL.
