why 1/8 mile and 1/4 miles?

idk if its area i think it is but why do most southern/western tracks go by 1/8th mile and not quarter?

idk if its opposite too those guys saying why quarter but i never got that

is it different type of racing or just how they do it in different places?

Cheaper insurance, less land required, makes the racing alot closer.

1/8 goes quicker more like street racing

Easier on the cars.

Cars just got to fast to run 1/4 mile. If you can't go fast enough in 1/8 mi. spend more money until you do.
