Ok I prime the engine and now I have oil leaking out the corners of the VC, I can;t imagine how much will leak when it actually runs........ These are brand new felpro gaskets with the metal core in them? I got them so tight the valve covers are bending almost,,,,,,,,,,,what to do?

Check the center threaded adapters for length. Sice you shimmed up the shaft you may be holding the covers up.

I second that!!! Put then on with no gasket and see if they will sit flat on the head. You will figure it out from there. Mike

I checked that clearance , had a good 1/4", stage II heads have big drain backs.....Maybe the covers are warped a bit? I' guess I am forced to silicone them...

Are you using the lower row of bolts or just the center bolts on the top of the valve covers ?
Allan G.

Just the center bolts, I have no access to the lower bolts. on PS............due to someone cutting the tabs off. and even then I can't get to them....poor header design.:( I have access on DS though.

Mine leaked when I didn't use the bottom row holes. I was able to access PS but had to put slight dimple in the headers.

That pic looks as tho a Jeep shaft might alleviate the header tube rub???

We will find out, tube is already dented, I have about 1/4" and a RJC rear motor brace, I hope it does not hit, I'm sure Id feel it...

were they always that tight or did you tighten them up after you saw the leak.My M&A valve covers would leak if they were to tight it would draw the gasket it and leak.

I tightened them up after I saw the leak........bad idea?

I second that, you shouldn't tighten them too much. Just handtight is enough for them....If they are leaking during priming already then they definitely will leak A LOT when you rev it up. Silicone isn't always the best way to go as it gets hot and then they leak again silicone should be the last measure at the track if you don't have new gaskets available.

Both are done with ultra gray silicone and new softer gaskets,,,I really hope they stop leaking...thanks for the tips...
