Anyone that knows me knows that i'm LOYAL "Buick" enthusiast but after 12 beers, 4 shots of Cabo-Wabo I'm wondering ...

Why bother running your Buick @ a track where everyone can see what you do (unless you have a x on your window) regardless if you are a V8 OR v6 Buick, if you aren't set and tuned!???

A guy was @ the track today, local dude that i've never meet before..... anyway he says he got the motor together back in November, 212/212 cam hnead & intake work, converter, exhaaust, blah, blah, blah, and on;y riunning 7.90s .. why bother if you know your having problems?

He was saying he had tranny problems..then why keep running it against people like my my buddy in a Mustang running low 7's ... when only running 7.90s and bragging to everyone about it???

It makes the Buick community look bad regardless if it's a Buick V8 or V6...

Why??????

Well this may not pertain to this certain fellow but the track is a place where you go to see your time then make inprovements on it (again he may have not been trying to improve). It's a legal place to race.

I go to the track wether or not if the car is running perfectly or not-

im sure the problem with his car is he just got it back together, started making more power and didnt upgrade the transmission, so now it slips- hence the reason for the bad time slips

7.90s arent that great, but at least he was there to RACE his car, and not brag about his buddies mustang running low 7s;)

alot of people get really really excited once they start making passes at the track, they get so pumped up they have to share with everyone what they have accomplished ET wise.

did you offer to help him out on the GN?

Yeah, I tried, then I turned him on to a local reputabable "Buick" tranny guy.

Hopefully he'll call him.

I just can't take a car to the track and run it with problems! The only way i'll run is ballz to the wall "full potential" against the brand xers.

theres always next time right?

im sure once he gets the trans rebuilt, and gets the boost turned up, she will be running alot better-

by the way, it was a GN right?
astro roof, gn wheels,te44?

I know i'm drunk ..but .....wa you there to? How did you know?

Dude was nice and all but I look @ it as a Buick reputation and dude was getting his @$$ kicked by brand X mostly Mustangs.

My buddy in the red Cobra even commented to me (rubbing it in) ha ha.. I beat your buddy in the GN ..ha ha !

My point is don't be out there unless your set on KILL ready to run ballz to the wall !!

Buick people have a rep to up-hold!

Well, Fact of the matter is many people go there to TUNE their cars. I may go and not be able to run "balls to the wall" as you call it but I'm there to get the car to that point. I don't give a sh!t if some dude in a Civic beats me (not that that would happen ;)) as stated I may there to get my car to that point that I can kick some ass. I can't be making WOT blasts down Rt95 all the time in a hope to tune. That is what the track is there for.

If I was there to tune, then I usually won't run anyone. If I'm there to "kill", then step up and try your luck........But some people like to run someone no matter what shape their car is in...

Just remember, there's always someone faster.Did you remind your buddy that your GN was ready whenever he was?

Well that's just it, mine is a POS that won't pull the hat of your head so I honestly have nothing to talk about. Back in it's day (10 years ago) it was the fastest "street car" in middle TN for a while... now it and me are just washed-up has-beens long forgotten :(
I don't have the money to dump into it that it needs and to be truthful I hate the car and i'm very pissed-off @ it. The only reason I don't try to sell it is I know it won't bring squat with the current market @ this time and I would have to have a certain price for it or i'll just let it sit and rot which is what it deserves. If I ever get back on my feet financialy, i'll build a V8 Buick anyway..something that I know is fast, not tempermental, easy to work on and that I can "enjoy".

Dude @ the track yesterday was nice though, I gave him my card and hope to hear from him. I shouldn't have started this thread really I was just drunk, bored and feeling rough and wanted something to chat about @ the time. I'll be glad to help him anyway I can. That car outta be running 6.80s or better with a good tranny, converter and turbo. :)

Was i there? no.
Do i know him? yes.

His best pass was a 7.6 at 92, still needs to be tuned and first time to the track since his motor was redone-

He really is a nice guy and has more than one, he just gets really excited:D

Going to the track is a way to get some good WOT passes and not have to worry about other people, pedestrians, cops, etc. I dont know about you, but there are very few places around here to actually go WOT for longer than a couple seconds. You cant tune your car if you can only get through 2nd without letting off. I got a couple tickets trying to tune my car out on public roads, so I dont take the chance anymore. It would look bad if I was bragging to everyone, and taunting people and then ran slow. Thats what ricers do. But theres a lot of people who use the track to tune and not to show off.

I hope you're feeling better today. :D Oh yeah..........screw those easy to work on  V8s. :D

I'd rather change those header gaskets anyday than on my pos turbo car. I've seen your red regal around the Nationals, I love the Iroc wheels concept. Thank you.. I feel MUCH better today!

Around here middle TN is fairly rural so there is a lot of places to tune your car on the street. I would use to always tune my car on the street before taking it to the track. When I got to the burn-out box my boost was already set on 25lbs...

Before they built a track in Tucson, alot of people would go out and street race. We would always go out of town to a rural deserted road to race and the cops would usually find us about 50% of the time and chase us off. Now that we have a track, I see alot of the same people at the track as I saw out at the illegals, and the track is actually closer to town than most of the street racing places.

My point is that most people go to the track to get a timeslip and improve upon what they have done, not to go faster than the guy in the other lane, that is just a bonus.

As far as getting beat by a civic, I almost did once at the track. I was sleeping at the lights (1.6rt) and finally launched and figured it wouldn't be a problem running down this civic, I was wrong, he ran a 14.1@99 to my 12.9@111 and I only beat him by .1 seconds. Turned out to be a lot better race than I was expecting considering it was to unmatched cars racing. Proof that you can have alot of fun without running low 11's

Ahh, your the guy that "hates your Buick" because its too "tempermental". You sound like more of a Buick Hater to me than an enthusiast.

So, because some guy is out at the track tuning in his car and trying to get a completely different combo dialed in, you feel the need to dog on him because you feel that if a car isnt running to its full potential, to not even bring it around. I wish I could change every part on my engine and just throw in some race gas and go. Not gonna happen.

Oh, and just because this person was excited, and having a good time, does not mean that hes bragging. Bench racing and talking **** is just a part of racing. Some people just take it too seriously, or completely out of context.

I dont know about most people, but I usually dont give a rats ass who is next to me at the track. At this point and time, I race for ET and MPH, not to beat the competion. A ton of other people do too.

So, why dont you go get under the hood of your Turbo Buick, and get it "set to kill". And dont dog on a fellow Buick owner because hes out there figuring his **** out while yours sits at home collecting dust........ what a waste

im sure he will appreciate that, but he has already purchased a transmission from Lonnie Diers- not knocking your buddy, but at least L.D. knows what it will take for a 10.5 car.

theres nothing worse than getting the dextron shower adjusting your gov or installing a t-brake when its cold out, or installing the correct 4 pin 3 wire harness when buying a good trans. or other brf parts.... ART CARR SUCKS and would rather piss you off than make things correct! all when your under the gun to get things done :)

been there many times, i am up next for a trans rebuild for my green car, i have a few people in mind, my last Mike Kurtz trans works flawlessly... been in the car for 4 years, my silver daily driver

i think we all have learned something from this post, people may say something about someone and not expect someone from another state to know who they are talking at that track-
:) i too smart :)

i wouldnt have known about it, but got a phone call from Shandy asking questions that i was HAPPY to answer because he asks questions before making mistakes! THAT is better than MOST gear heads out there, ask first go fast later :)

Last, but not least, the answer to your thread is......
Q? "WHY BOTHER?"
A! " you shouldnt, you probably couldnt take the heat from your mustang buddies laughing at your because your car never really was fast, but you bust someone elses balls because he has alot of parts on his car is aint quite up to par..
back to my first post, he was there to RACE his car- :)

PS...the bar has been set here in KC, thats KANSAS CITY, NOT TENNESSEE.... (By the way i need a new sweat shirt, mine caught on fire at work), its 11.31 stock turbo, stock intercooler with dutt neck, going 116 and change on 91 octane and meth, this will become a new class at the nationals because it will cost the least amount of money to maintain and everyone here can contend making it a landslide win

im glad you did post, i have had a chance to swig a couple few beers and post my feelings about this subject, i dont have any ill feelings about you drinking and posting, thats 50% of my posts by the way, i drink alot, water always tastes the best ;) but dont knock a guy ACTUALLY THERE TO RACE, not to sit back and watch and talk smack on my guy.

yeah, i got to get back to sleep

BW

Well im another one of those tennesse slow cars..7.62 @93 was best time ever..not fast as the old mustang but if I spent a lil time & maybe a converter & slicks I could be right there with his time or better..wish I could have went ..bet you froze your balls off..snowing here now

[If I ever get back on my feet financialy

Sorry to say it man but we all are in a lil finacial bind here lately..I warned you & several about this about 6 or so years ago..
Other than that hows things been going with you? Wife is back full time in realestate now with broker in springfield..she loves it & doing pretty good to start..maybe this year will do better for us all..
