I was looking through a Hemmings Muscle Car Magazine from a few months back and there was a pictorial on a mid 70's chevelle that had a factory drivers bucket seat that would swivel 90 degrees to make it easier to get in and out of. I remember seeing a couple of these in the salvage yards when I was a kid.
What a great idea. Seems like it would have made it so much easier getting in and out. Especially for taller guys like me, and would probably save some wear and tear on the seat also. Was a very simple device and you would have never known the seat had that function unless you saw the little lever on the seat.
Why didn't that ever catch on?

Ya I remember seeing a 70's Monte Carlo with those seats. I had fun playing around in that car. My guess is the gov probaly had some safety issues with the swivel feature.

swivel buckets, crushed velour, dingle balls, shag carpet, and 8-tracks! groovy man!

I had a '73 442 with the swivel Captain's Chair. Next to the hood stripe it was the coolest thing about the car. The emissions 350 and economy gear made the thing a real dog but it was the first car that I legally owned. (bought it in '83) My first car was a '57 Chevy Bel Air that I helped restore and drove in high school. It actually belonged to my brother but he gave it to me to drive until I graduated. After graduation he paid me for my part of the car which paid for the Olds. I guess it is obivous why I'm a car nut now, hunh? Thanks Bro. :D
