Why Meth over Denatured or Rubbing Alcohol?

Well, I've got an Alky kit on the way and am curious why there is so much talk of Methanol compared to Denatured or Rubbing Alcohol? Is it just cost or are there bigger performance gains with Meth? Seems so much harder to find then a gallon of denatured alky at Lowes or Home Depot.

denatured works good to it is ethanol with meth mixed to keep folks from drinking it.meth is the best though

Methanol is the cheapest typically. and it is a fuel used by Race Cars..

As to locating it.. it is what it is.. once you find a source.. its easy.

That's the problem.....finding a source....

Lowes denatured alky is $15 a can. And my car goes thru it like no tomorrow.

I guess I just don't realize how much I will use yet. I keep thinking how much could I actually use. I guess it's addictive.

Methanol is about half the cost of denatured. $5.00 a gallon vs. $12.00

Don't use regular rubbing alcohol, it wrecked my pump.

How fast do you go through a tank? Really driving her around town getting on it often Do you go through a tank in like 60 miles or something? I only drive the car 30-50 miles a week over the course of a year, can't imagine I'd be going through a ton of alky. It'll get raced about 2 times this year, 4-5 passes each time.

Depends on a few things. Mine is old non progressive. It comes on at 19 psi. I found that with alcy off it shows 0- or close KR on the scanM at 19 psi on a 65 degree day with this turbo, that's with pump gas and some 104 fuel additive, so it doesn't come on till then. Turbo and IC seems to be efficient from the scanner. So I don't use it very fast, but I only drive the car about 300 miles a year. If you get on it more and with a progressive type that comes on sooner in the boost range, like 12psi, then maybe you'll use it faster. I don't usually get into 20 psi just driving around town.
