Hello all! Brand spankin new to the site upon recommendation from a fellow member I just bought a stock 200-4R from for my 72 Chevelle build.

Before I go any farther with my build I want to make sure that I'll be able to use my carb with my 200-4R I just bought.

Carb = Holley 3310-1, 780 cfm (4150 DP)

with Holley 20-121 kickdown bracket

I've read that the bracket is not compatible with some older Holley carbs.

This is from Jakeshoe's site, there are others but this explains what is needed pretty well. If your bracket will pull the tv cable in this manner it will work. Lets be clear, it isn't a "kickdown" as it applies to the th350/th400. This cable regulates the transmission pressure by how much the throttle is open.If the pressure isn't high enough to apply the clutches(and keep them applied(not slipping)) at the rpm/speed, rest assured you will be burning clutches up.

Not sure what you are trying to use but there are kits out there for many carbs. Bowtie overdrives seems to get recommended pretty regularly.

Let us know what you end up using and how it works.

Oh, and welcome to the site!

Hey Mike, I converted my 74 Corvette to a 200-4R and called Bowtie Overdrives right after I saw that diagram shown above. (too much math for me) I am using a 4160 Holley though and the throttle linkage looks different from your 4150. I saw on BTO's site that they only have two Holley kits. Below are some images of how that kit fits on a 4160.

I am not sure that the bto kit will fit your carb. But based on their design and the diagram above I would recommend a kit that is meant to work together, both a geometry corrector and a bracket to hold the cable. Here is the bto kit on my carb so you can see the difference in linkage.

Here you can see the difference in the two linkages.

Transmissioncenter.net sells the unit you are thinking of for this purpose. What I can tell you is I spent a day working on the carb throttle and TV connection. Here is an image of the TV corrector you are looking at from Holley but on a linkage more like the one in the image above.
Your linkage kicks out a little on top. The other linkages in these pics kick out a little on the bottom. That may be the incompatible part of the puzzle.

Thanks for the help . . . I've fired off emails to Bowtie, CK and transmissioncenter. On the Holley installation instructions for 20-121 it says that it doesn't work with older carbs . . . I don't think you can get much older than mine, lol. Also, looking at the diagram from Jakes makes my head start to hurt as well. I was quite glad when I had my last geometry class way back in high school. If I don't find a "buy-able" solution, it looks like class might be back in session, lol!

.25 cents worth of washers might give you the space needed for the 20-121 to fit on your carb. See how mine has that kick out at the bottom, looks like you may could get away with using that corrector and the bracket they sell for the cable housing. That would be a MUCH cheaper solution.

There is a wealth of information in the archives of this forum and some of the heavy hitters still drop in too.

What is the code of the transmission you bought? These transmissions are a great upgrade and if you need a new carb to get it to work right, It will pay off. What transmission did your Chevelle come with? I would guess a TH400. I was able to use the stock 400 crossmember and 400 mount. It bolts right in and if you had the short tailshaft 400 you may be able to reuse your driveshaft.

Lower first gear ratio for better take off
Less parasitic drag which is like getting 15-20 rwhp
Overdrive will change your life if you have 3.55 gears or higher

And

You get a new carb!!!

ps. I have spent the last 2 months reading and talking with the big name vendors like Rick at BTO, Jake, David and Chris. I am happy to share what I have learned and help if I can but we may be the only two Chevy guys here so you might PM me about conversion stuff.

Thanks John! As per the code of the tranny, I'll have to take a look. The Chevelle came with a rebuilt TH 350 that was never installed *AND NEVER WILL BE* LOL! The plan is to put 3.73 posi in the rear. It's a 12 bolt and currently has 2.73 open gears right now - "boooo, hiss"

My understanding is that I'll have to unbolt the cross member, slide it back slightly and bolt it back in - the holes are already there. And, the TH 350 and 200-4R are the same length so, yes, the drive shaft should fit like a glove.

Info & Pics here may help you understand the geometry.

The Holley type TV/Throttle cable brackets & TV geometry corrector bracket will work for your 4150 Carb. The old/early Carbs they're talking about are the 4100/4010 Carbs that are the new Summit S/S Carbs.

You would need a Spread Bore kit from BTO.

All of the above is real good info, i have a holley 4160 and i used the same geometic braket, but i went with a procomp thorttle bracket..know with the bracket the TV cable decent bracket dosent come with it, so its a separte order...u can get it all at summit racing...if you want the bling bling look...lol

Thanks again for all of the helpful pic, links and info.

I'm thinking that my best and easiest option for getting this carb to work with my 200-4r tranny is to swap out the base plate, thus giving me the proper throttle linkages and hardware I need to hook up the kick down lever. Geometry and fabrication aren't my strong suits. So, I assume I should be looking at an aftermarket 4150 base plate such as:
